As I have said, I am 16 1/2 years past initial Dx and EBRT and 5 1/2
years past recognition of my recurrence. The cancer has become hormone
resistant, my last three monthly PSAs have been 43, 58 and 91, and I
begin chemotherapy tomorrow. Since no one here has seen peritoneal
seeding and malignant ascites due to prostate cancer, we don't know what
to expect.
Tomorrow, day 1, I will begin Decadron 8 mg bid for three days and
estramustine (Emcyt) 280 mg bid for either three or five days (I must
get my two therapists together on this). On Wednesday, day 2, I will
have an IV infusion of Taxotere. Several days off and then repeat so
that the second Taxotere is given on day 9. A week off and then the
cycle is repeated. The number of cycles is not predetermined, and will
depend on my progress or lack of it. Not much promise has been held out
to me for good or prolonged success.
I'll let you know how the treatment goes.
My QOL has been mentioned here. I have vacationed out of the country 22
times since my first Dx. Nine of those trips have been since my
recurrence: Praque, Budapest and Vienna; Mexico; Spain and Portugal;
England; England and Ireland; Burma; and three times to India. I have
lived well with my cancer.

They took out my prostate 40 months ago, and I finished a 24 week course of
chemotherapy 18 weeks ago. Decadon and Estramustine were my co-treatments with
alternating Mondays of IV Taxotere and IV Adiramycin. I get another blood draw
for PSA in 6 days, but it has been looking pretty good so far. PSA is 12-13,
not at all undetectable, but steady. The other patients in this study DO have
undectable PSA, so it looks good for you, too.

This is interesting, as at the University of Michigan Cancer Center they
do not alternate these two drugs, but give only Taxotere. The
co-treatment drugs are the same. Where did you get your Tx?
