I know that I have had it much better than alot of you guys, but I thought
I'd share a little note of hope. I am 54 years old and almost 2 years post
RP, PSA's are still zero, so that's the most important thing.  Since the
cath was out, I have pursued an almost obsessive routine of using my hand to
try and wake it up.  At least once a day even when completly limp. I have
been able to get decent erections, and enjoy sex, although modified from
what I would call normal. I need lots of help, and it's much better with
Viagra etc. Today after 2 years I awoke with the first full blown erection
since my surgery. No matter what I did, I could never get it this erect
before today, especally on its own. After all this time I still see very
subtle improvements all the time. It's very.. very... slow going. It may
take weeks or even months between these changes. Seems like the nerves do
heal even more with time. My advice is to keep workin' it guys.

Cool beans! Maybe you're on the road of considerable improvements!
Hope so, at least.

Glad to hear that you are returning to normal functioning.  From my
observation of what I have read on the ng, two years seems to be kind of a
magic benchmark for the return of erections.  In three weeks I celebrate
(well, that is not quite the right word for it) one year post RRP, and at
this point it is dead meat.  Viagra gives me a stuffy nose, and blue haze if
I take too much, and Cialis doesn't even do that.  Expensive
experimentation.
Anyway, I am happy for you.  Keep it up :)
   Thank you.

why you say expensive? generic cialis or viagra.. http://www.pillsamples.com
might still have free generic samples

viagra sucks for side effects, cialis works like a charm, but give it a full
3 hours to work...

This is great news!!  My experience has been unique.  I had my cath removed
last Monday.  In addition to being able to go without a pad 2 days after
cath removal, I had my first erection 16 days post surgery.  Granted, I take
one-half a Cialis every other day, but it was quite surprising to me - given
all the experiences I've read about here.  Just last night, prior to taking
the pill, 2 full days after taking a half dose, I was able to achieve a
pretty good erection.  I'm hoping ot actually use it for the first time next
weekend!!

Glad to hear you guys are having such good luck in the erection department.
I'm at 19 months... and still hoping more will return.  Reading your posts
gives me a boost.

I actually woke up with a hard on last night... it has happened several
times.  When I try to get an erection, I just get a bit of tumescence.  But
when I have awakened with one, it has been hard.  But then it disappears as
soon as I awaken and touch it.
Psychological, perhaps??

Take care.....

Tip of the day.........  when it's hard like that, grab it firmly at the
base with 2 fingers, and push it up so it's even harder. Hold it as long as
you like. Stetch it out like a balloon. If nothing else it's really
impressive to look at isn't it? Sounds crazy but I think that visualization,
and repetition may help in the psychological department.

Actually, while it is a bit early, your experience is not really that
unique.  Remember that age is an important factor here.  As Walsh
explains it,  the nerves tend to degenerate with age.  Many men in the
their 70s and older are impotent without having prostate surgery.
Treatment for prostate cancer is traumatic for the nerves, and that
reduces one's erectile capability further.   Since older men generally
have less to start with,  it takes longer to recover.  Younger men can
stand the trauma better.

One warning though.  There can be ups and downs in your progress in this
area---excuse the pun.   So don't expect everything to progress
uniformly.  You will have good days and bad days, but over time you
should show solid improvement.  So be patient with setbacks.

Thanks for the report and congratulations! I've had my "ups and downs" with
erections. Lately it's seemed more down than up. 8) However, I don't want
to fool with the drugs, and it does get hard for a little bit pretty
regularly, so I don't feel the need to go with a pump.

At least I'm beginning to be able to go without a pad for a full day when I
know I'll be near a bathroom. I still don't trust it for a full workday in
the suit, or during my regular running regimen, but it won't be long.
