Everytime I click on a message, it gets crossed out and the program tells me
it's been removed from the server.  Guess I'm out of luck until I figure it
out.

Does the servor serve only you?  The program marks a message as read once you
read it  and does not show it to you again, but it is still there.  My program
has a screen that has one column labeled "unread" and another labeled "total".
Right now there are 13 "unread" and 290 or so "total".  The servor overwrites
messages more than a couple weeks old or so, but doesn't erase them merely
because you have read them.  Check google and you can read just about every
message posted here- it'll take you a couple months.  Have fun!

It's working fine now.  I suspect they were probably picked up by the Road
Runner news server and then lost, but that the headers were left behind.

In any case, I'm O.K. now.
