Hello - this seems like a terrific site and I've gathered a lot of
information already.

My husband was diagnosed last week, T1C, stage 7 with a PSA of 8.  We've
pretty much decided on a prostatectomy (either RRP or LRP but leaning
towards RRP).  It is difficult to find the most experienced and skilled
surgeons in the area (doctor referral hasn't yielded much experience).  We
have one lead and are meeting with him on Wednesday.  Does anyone know a
terrific doctor in Portland area?   My husband doesn't want to travel out
of the area, but it seems like skill and experience is critical.

Thanks in advance and we'll keep posting through this ordeal.  I
appreciate the humor that some of you have adopted.  We're still reeling
but have optimism from reading the posts here.

Kind regards,

Debbie

I've forwared your request to a friend in Portland who is a 10 year
PCa survivor.  However, I believe he had most of his treatments
directed from Seattle, maybe Univ. of Washington.  I'll let you know
what he says.

Debbie:   My friend responded almost immediately:

Don,

Yes, I have some suggestions for Debbie, but this is too tender a
question just to send a doctor's name. I'd rather talk on the phone
and
explain my point of view first. If you wish, suggest she phone me at
503-292-8029.

Well, Debbie.  Seems like you've already done your homework.

Yes, a skilled surgeon is a must.  Prostate surgery is not cut and dried,
black and white.  There is almost a continuum of good and bad things that
can happen depending on the surgeon.

His numbers look pretty good.  Keep your chin up.

Hello Debbie,
I live in Fort Bragg Calif. small town, nothing between here and there.
I went to the local Dr.s and found a lot of uncertainty.
I decided to go to the "Big Hospitals" in San Francisco.
Glad I did:  I am alive.

I had RP 1999.
I was supposed to get external beam.......Lupron etc. (got Lupron) got
informed............
Went to the "Big City" by myself mind you, and had 2 other diagnosis....
I ended up @ Stanford.University.  Great Dr.s and great care, and yes, you
can live a bit longer....
Do not be afraid to travel to get a problem solved.  It may be the best road
trip you ever took.
I suggest Stanford Hospital.
I could put you up at my house, and you can go from here to the Hospital.
I can send in information to the Dr. and see if can handle another patient.

Best I can do.
Please let me know if I can help.
Tell your husband he needs expert care.
Love you both.
John Loomis

Geez - I'm overwhelmed!  Thanks to everyone - I called the Portland man and
truly appreciate the offer around the Stanford option.  "Our" doctor
appointment is Wednesday with the one Portland doctor we found.  I'll let
you all know how it turned out.

Again - my appreciation.  I am truly impressed with the warm caring
response I have found at this site!

Thanks!!

Debbie

Hi Debbie,
Not to get into a pissing contest (fat chance!) but if you want some leads
in the Seattle area, let me know.

Good luck in your search,
Larry
