Hi everyone
Thanks to all that responded to my first post. What a great group of
people, I just found this NG a couple of weeks ago.
I had my first visit with the doctor since my surgery in February, my
PSA level was undetectable, I don't know how much that means
considering I'm still on Lupron. I will need to see what it dose once
I am off that stuff.
I did ask the reason for the Lupron, the doctor said it is used as a
precautionary procedure to try to kill any trace of cancer in the
event they did not get it all with the surgery. He is still very
confident that he was able to get it all. If he did get it all doses
that mean that it can never come back? I should have asked but those
surgeons always seem to be in such a hurry, I should have written down
my questions before the visit.
I did get another shot of 4 month lupron what a drag, so I guess I
will be a limp dick until at leased October.

funny thing about urine and sex.

But, why Lupron?  Was there postive margines?

I have read alot of your messages on this NG thanks for all your help.
As far as the margins below is what was on my report which they gave
me on my dismissal  Feb 8th 2004.

The right anterior apex margin is involved by tumor over a 7 mm
length. The left anterior apex margin is involved by tumor over a 2mm
length. Seiparately submitted additional apex tissue is free of tumor.
the remaining surgical margins including separately submitted
periureathral tissue, are negative for tumor.

LOL what ever all that means

That means there is a much larger probability that some cancer cells escaped
before surgery- there was a patch of cancer cells a quarter of an inch in
diameter at the top forward (anterior) edge of both lobes of the prostate.  The
lupron means that the PSA will tell you nothing about the status of your cancer
until 6 months after your last shot, or after you go refractive in three or
four years.  Still, you are in better shape than I was.  Good luck.  I am still
taking lupron and casodex, even though I am obviously "refractive", with PSAs
in the teens, well, 12 anyway.

If I understand it myself, I suspect his intent is to shrink any minimal PCa
cells that might still exist.  He might even suggest radiation for a
possible death knwll.

Let us know.
