Hubby compleated 42 IMRT treatments about 6 weeks ago. Suddenly he has
lost nearly all of his abdominal and pubic hair. Is this normal?
Nothing I have heard mentioned this. I would assume it's a side effect
that everyone gets, but am curious. At least he has a sense of humor
about it!

Damn,
You made me drop my drawers and take a look!!! Nope, all there.
I hadn't heard of that but my wife says she's heard of it happening in some
cases.
Looks like hubby is one of the unlucky ones. Rather minor side affect
considering everything he's going through though.
Had to look at that last sentence very closely - spelling though after
through was tough.
Hope everything else is OK.

I lost all of my stomach and lower belly hair and most of the hair on my
arms after 30 radiation treatments and got a real dandy case of jock
itch. Before I started my treatments I got a very good pamphlet with all
the side effects listed that many of you are now surprisingly finding
out, so we all go through the same problems it seems.

I had 35 and no hair loss or 'tanning' whatsoever.

Yep, my husband had it happen after his 25 EBRT treatments and right before
his seeding. We joked about his new youthful appearance. He jumped in the
shower one day and when he jumped out it was naked! (Except for a single
"eyebrow" over the area.) To be honest I think he lost it over a couple of
days, he just didn't realize it was thinning. On the bright side it grew
back.
Someone else on this group lost a stripe right down the middle - like a wide
part.
It's pretty normal and it will grow back - just give it a week or two.

At least he finally had a side effect that gave us a chuckle! I told
him that at least he wouldn't have to get a bikini wax now and all I got
for that was a dirty look. Glad to hear it will grow back, though I am
confident I can come up with some good one-liners before it does!

Hi alioop9,
I had 40 radiation treatments in the beginning of 2001. I found that some
of my hair did stop growing and most of the rest turned darker or grayed. I
was 39 at the time so I did notice this. Mine did grow back in the area it
was not growing anymore. Many people have no loss of hair at all after
radiation. Is he taking any other supplements or treatments at this time?

He takes stuff for his joints and lots of things for pain and depression
for his other ailments. This has been the worst of all things I was
prepared (or not) for. I wish I could find other groups for his other
problems that were as supportive and informative as this one. IMHO,
this is the best and most caring group I have found for this particular
problem. Wish there were groups out there for the rest.
