I'd like to take this opportunity to remember Robert Vaughn Young.

Those who have been here for years know what kind of man he was.  But for
the roughly 100 newbies in the last year....

Bob was originally from the northeast.  Seattle, I think.  He was a U.S.
Marine and a warrior.  At some point, he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and
married his second wife, Caren.  Or maybe they married and moved.  I don't
remember.  It's not important.

During late 1999, he discovered he had terminal prostate cancer.  His PSA
was 1000+ and Stage was M1c.  The shock, as I think you can still read on
his website, brought him to his knees on his kitchen floor.  But, like a
phoenix, he rose up.  He became very involved in this NG and was one of the
more helpful people to me.  He built www.phoenix5.org, considered by many to
be the best layman's source for Prostate Cancer information in the world.
He began a man-to-man prostate group in a Cincinnati suburb called the
Prostate Cancer Networking Group.

As we got into the Year 2003, Bob posted less and less.  He update the
website less frequently.  He eventually stopped going to his group because,
as he said, he didn't want them to be disheartened by his appearance.

On June 15, 2003, Bob died.

Caren continues maintaining www.phoenix5.org.  Others have taken over his
group.  But, he left a void here that may never be filled by any one single
person.

A man, and his work,  to be remembered for sure.  Thanks to his wife for
keeping up the work.  It is good to see the page up and running.  Thank you
Steve.

Also the website exists thanks to the donations of many who have supported
it. It is a non-profit, tax deductible organization that really appreciates
your money even if it is just a wee little bit. He was a wonderful, loving,
caring  man and his legacy to this world is his web site.

Go to the donation page, though you'll find it a little outdate.

Bob was, indeed, a kind and caring man.  He was also very helpful to me when
I was first diagnosed.  He always seemed to know just the right thing to
say.

He is greatly missed.  But he has left behind such a great legacy with
phoenix5.

Rest in peace, Bob!

That site has been of great value to me, as have the contributions of
everyone in this group.  Thanks Caren for keeping the site running.

Continuing thanks to all who post here for the encouragement,
information and just for the experience of sharing (that word has become
devalued by being "trendy" in recent years, but thanks anyway).

I remember Bob Young and the great work he did.

His website provided me with more straight forward information and support
than any other source at the time I was diagnosed.

God Bless Robert Young

Thanks for posting Steve.  A link for the RP Shopping List originally
brought me to this excellent site.  This was a great thing Mr Young
did.
