Hello to all.....
Having been around this group of "selected people" for 5 years now, I feel
that I owe it to all to keep you updated on the latest results of PSA
test....
For those of you that do not know, I had RRP on 4/99..Dx was PSA of 5.2, age
49, initial Gleason of 8 but downgraded to 6 after RRP analysis, fully
continent 1 month after surgery and normal erections after 1.5 year of RRP
!!.. ( don't loose faith)
Last Friday I received the latest results of the 5 year mark..it was < .13
This has been the same number for the last 3 years....a talk with the
technician at the hospital indicated that they can't read any
lower....although 3.5 years ago I received a result of < .1
I am still the main volunteer for my Doctor on chatting with new PCa
patients and the "poster boy" for the local hospitals cancer center in the
area of PCa....
I hope to continue in this capacity for many more years to come !!
Your brother in arms,
Fernando

Congratulations on your continuing good reports, Fernando.
That's a great volunteer project you do, talking to new patients.

Congrats on the low PSA, Fernando!
I wish you many more!
It's good to read of men who have reached that 5-year mark and beyond!
I've got a PSA check coming up soon... and it always makes me anxious...
Any help with the erections? How did you do it?

Thanks for the congrats....
I neglected to say that the doc indicated that he "attempted" to save one of
the nerve bundles and was clear that only time would prove......the Doc did
not want ANY type of ED treatment until I reached the 3 month mark...he
indicated that he wanted to make sure that the area healed well.....at
first, I tried Viagra 100mg....got a wonderful headache and slight
results.....then I tried again another day without eating anything for 8
hours before taking it !!..That was it....it worked...not only did it work,
but by not eating anything (specially greasy stuff or any alcohol) for 4
hours prior to taking Viagra, I was able to cut every 100mg pill into about
5 to 6 pieces and get very good results....this happened during the first 8
months or so....after this, no Viagra was needed and back to what I would
consider normal complete erections 1.5 years after RRP...

hi fernando - you are the first one i've heard of being the spoke person
to others who the doctor recommends to talk to.
i got a call last december from a person who my surgeon recommended that
he call me and it definitely does reassure them that they have made the
right decision and they have more confidence in the surgeon too.
that is something that i would say is not being done and would be a
great asset. whether it is radiation and surgery, if the former
patients could volunteer to be in a pool, so to speak and then the new
patient could contact anyone in the pool that has had that particular
treatment. maybe that is something that needs to be explored more.
from your positive comments, i would definitely say that is the
direction the treatment centers need to go.
congrats on the great results.

Glad to hear you've had another good PSA test!
The big 5 year mark! That means you can donate blood again, etc. And you'll
start to hear things like "cured". I know that must be a great feeling.
It's also nice to hear that you are talking to other patients. I think the
fear factor is so high when someone is Dx'ed with PC that it helps to have
someone there who can say I've been there and went through this and I'm
okay. Besides I know you probably do a wonderful job of talking to these
folks as you have always been an excellent contributor out here.
Thanks for being there at your local cancer center and thanks for being out
here.
To Life!!

Congratulations to my friend Fernando. I have been with you along your path
and as you well know, and I had RP 10/99.
My son's were entering High School and College. Funny, now they are both
graduating.
I am very happy for you, and so far my PSA's have been negligible

Congratulations, Fernando. An excellent example, I think, more that you can
have a > 0.1 and still be safe. I hope to be congratulating you on your
