hi
i notice a difference in bowel behaviour after rrp.
Even 5 months after rrp.
I need to go more often than before rrp.
There is pain if I do not go when I feel the urge. or
am constipated.
Will this go away ? and bowel behaviour return to normal ?

I'd have that looked at. It would seem reasonable that your bowel will
adjust to the sudden space where once there was a prostate. However, that
space fills in fairly quickly. If the space filled in with bowel, or a
diverticulae, then you need to know about it and eat accordingly.

I'm agrreing with Steve on this. The void created by the
prostatectomy takes some physical adjustment. There was a bit of
getting used to several changes and this was one of them. As for the
pain have a doctor check it out. It may just be your nerves repairing
themselves at the sphincter muscles or it could be something worthy of
investigation.

I am 4 months post IMRT with normal bowel function. Things got better after
I started taking psyllium (like Metamuscil) to firm up the stool and make BM
regular. The rectel iching has gone away with the reduction in BMs and more
firmness.

Mine is toward constipation, despite eating fresh fruit, salads, and whole
grain cereals. A couple months ago my doctor told me to start using a stool
softener. Not a laxative. Just the stool softener. The pharmacist told me
that all are the same drug, so get the pharmacy generic brand. It has
helped some, but I still do not have normal regularity or stool. My RRP was
August 2003, so that is what, ten months now.
As to things returning to normal. That answer, in my opinion, is no.
Nothing returned to normal. At last not yet.
Good luck to you.
