Thank you again one and all. This a Great NG.
A somewhat trivial and vain question. I'm trying to get back in shape and
started Atkins 2 weeks ago. lost 8 lbs. (please hold the applause till I've
lost about 25.) All the fat and protein is kinda scary though (I be big
Carb - pasta man)
Never the less. I look at this nice scar when I can see past the flab
overhanging it and I want to start doing ab exercises. (crunches, leg lifts,
etc.) any advice, thoughts, warnings about starting in on getting one of
those flat abs of yester year?
Oh by the way 1st PSA <0.1 @ 2 months, feel great, life is good. Continent
from the day Foley went away! My uro says that the pump is the way to go to
help those "spared nerves" start to remember what they're supposed to do and
to keep the "works" active. The drugs come later. I have had experience
with nerve damage/re-growth in an earlier illness and I know it comes
slowly.
Patience is everything! No my wife is everything!
Thanks again you're all too terrific

Tony,
My guess is, don't do any ab exercises without clearing it with
the doctor. And then start s l o w l y and gently, thinking about
how it feels as you do it. If you aren't feeling pain, then
what you're doing is probably okay. If you start feeling pain
then you're hurting something. Back off.
The last thing you want to do is rip something inside that's
healing up.

Tony,
My RP was in June 2004 and my concern about exercise was the same as
yours. My uro/surgeon told me that I should take it slowly and that
my body would tell me if I was pushing things. I wasn't doing too
much at first because of that blankety-blank Foley (that was, for me,
the worst part of the whole ordeal)however I couldn't sit still long
enough. It wasn't until October that I started trying real easy
crunchies. The uro/surgeon had installed a bladder sling to prevent
the bladder from sagging and once again if I overdid it the signs were
clear. Don't know if this was right or wrong and this is no advocation
for it.
Hope your PSA stays down. Good health to you.
Age 55 at dx. (January 2003)
Gleeson-6 T2 (surgery in June 2003)
No problems after the Foley came out.
post-op PSA's .4, .7, .9 and 1.0
currently on Lupron and RT (half way through both)
trying to see the humor in it all.

My uro advised in December when I had my RRP, that my innards would not be
fully healed until about June. However, he also sent me back to work
without restriction during March.
I think that I would start out with very light workouts of your abs and
increase it slowly. I think your abs are probably 90% by now and if they're
going to blow, you'll have plenty of warning if you take it light and
slowly.

Oh, and by the way, I found that getting a half-barrel set of abs is a lot
easier than a six-pack.
