Although my Doc recommended a PSA at 90 days post-op (had Robotic LRP
3/26/04), I was driving myself crazy thinking about it ....plus am
considering having a second opinion of the post-op path report.
As the PSA test is now taken at approx. 7.5 weeks, how much inprovement
might I expect.
Would I be overly optimistic to expect a VERY low score, or would the PSA
decline over a longer period of time.
BTW, my pre-op PSA was 6.7

hi jh - to give you some a clue.  my pre-op psa with 6.35

i had my RP done on 4-15-03 and i had an appt on 5-30-03 at which time,
they pulled blood and did a psa on me.   it's was already at <.04.

hope yours is undetectable too.

Yes, I should add, my 10/17/2000 PSA was 16.  My RRP was 12/15/2000.  My
March 2001 PSA was < 0.1 and I found out later that I did have leftover
cancer.

PSA in serum has a half-life of about 2.5 to 3.0 Days, so that is 17 to 20
half-lives, which would bring it down to about 0.00001 if nothing else were
producing PSA- but there is something else.  Expect a "< 0.1" at least, I would
say.  Unless cutting the prostate releases loads of PSA into the blood...

After LRP, if LRP was the correct treatment, it should be <0.1.  The whole
purpose of and RP is to get the cancer out of your body.  So, if it didn't
already escape, you have no cancer left (notwithstanding Vernon's argument
which makes a lot of sense).

I so love my husband and I just pray to God this comes out ok......and I
thank you for you support ....will know Monday.....appointment is at
3:45.....please keep your fingers crossed and pray to whatever higher power
you believe in. It seems like this doesn't end, and that's what I'm
beginning to learn.....I was so naive to think that it ends after
LRP....hopefully it will, but I know it doesn't for lots of folks or it does
temporarily and then rears its ugly head. Well I just thank you all very
much for your support.

You are *both* in my prayers, Sandy.... I have found over the past two years
that the *waiting* is the worst part of all of this!  I have to have another
PSA test in June.... and I'm already dreading it. :-(

Please keep us posted!

Sandy,

It probably will do no good, but I will try anyway.  You almost certainly
have nothing to worry about.  His PSA was 10 below mine.  His Gleason was
the same as mine.  He had a better procedure than I did (IMPO).  There is no
reason why Monday should turn out anything other than "less than 0.1".

That said, yes, you are in it for the long haul.  The only good news is no
news.  No recurrence.  No rise in PSA.  And if you get those results quarter
after quarter, year after year, you will never be sure, at least not until
your 38th anniversary.  If I were you, I'd plan something special for that
one.
