I'm 67 years old.
Gleason = 3 +4
Stage Tc1
PSA rose from about 1.5 in January to 5.4 in May.
I'll get a bone scan and CT scan next Thursday.
I've been impotent for about 2 to 3 years - uro put me on androgel
last September. My sugeon, Dr. Kadman, said that the androgel may have
been a blessing because it forced the PSA upswing so that I would get
a biopsy before the cancer had spread too much.
Emails from Curtis have been reassuring as to surgery - thanks Curtis.
Surgery will probably be in the middle of June - Kadman will not do it
until the effects of the biopsy have healed. He says that his record
is about 50% retaining sexual function and 8 to 10% incontinence. From
what I have read (Walsh's book) that seems to be about average. What
with Viagra, Trimix, etc., the first is not a concern. Incontinence
would be a major downer.

Best of luck, Leo (or Charlie). You're numbers are comparatively good. Let
us know your date when you find out and we'll have a word with the Big Guy
when you go under the knife.

Hi, Leo,
I, too, was on Androgel for about nine months prior to my jump in PSA. In a
way, I consider it a blessing, as otherwise the cancer may not have shown up
until it had progressed too far.
Best to you!

Leo,
Right, risk of permanent incontinence is quite low and I suggest you don't
worry about it. Especially since your numbers imply you're headed for a
complete, one-time cure. Best of luck with your surgery.
