OT Firewall Question Zone Alarm Pro 4.0

Based on the recommendations from the group during the Sasser virus
incident I bought Zone Alarm Pro 4.0 (Amazon for $36.99).  I installed it
last night and it is driving me crazy with messages that pop up every time
something tries to either get in or out.  By the way, I have dial up,
Earthlink, and it is frightening how often something out there tries to get
into my computer!
So, is it really necessary to keep getting all these interruptions, and
is there an easy way to shut these things off (the messages I mean, not what
it is doing to protect my system)?
Thank you and have a good weekend all.

I have ZoneAlarm(not Pro) but should be the same. Right click on the task
bar icon and open the control center. Go to alerts and you can shut off the
pop-up messages. You'll still be protected.

Hi Dave......

I guess by seeing all the popups makes you realize just what is roaming
around out there in the ether......scary, isn't it.

Do as the olfart says......or the next time you get a popup to do with
incoming pings, etc......not outgoing.....just tick off the box that says
something like "don't show this to me again"......and it will stop the
alerts.  I never have them running.

There are other things to tweak in ZAPro 4.5.xxx......if you want to know
about them, drop me a line.  I have no idea of your email address.  You
change that more often than I have hot meals.....grin.

Btw......open ZAPro (double click the icon by the clock) and click on the
Update button on the main page to make sure you have the very latest
version.

Cheers.....Auntie Virus.

When I was running ZA (non-pro), there was a checkbox on these pop-ups that
asked whether you wanted to see the popup again. It wasn't real obvious
though. The idea is that you can tell it what to let through "unannounced".

Scary isn't it!

Where I work there is a big public, visible website
(http://cancer.gov).  They used to configure a new
computer by installing it, hooking it up to the net,
downloading the software they needed onto it, and
getting it ready to go.

They had to abandon that approach because they
found they were getting hacked before the computer
was even fully configured.

Now they've put all the software they need on CD ROMs,
including all the firewall and anti-virus software.  They
load and configure everything first, turn on the firewall
and the virus checkers, then hook it up to the net.
