Was curious to know what's the youngest age known to have prostate
cancer?  I may have gotten into that group in my locality but being
diagnosed at age 42, but i'm sure i've had it at 41, maybe alittle
sooner, perhaps at 40. I had RP surgery over a yr. ago, my erections
are strong when I get them, intensity is much more intense then
before. Only problem is occasional urine leaking due to high blood
pressure pills. Otherwise, I'm definitely glad my doctor performed the
nerve sparing procedure. BTW, all of my follow ups have been less than
.01 PSA, or less than .1, I can't really remember.

Hay, another Youngun <G>

I was 39 at diagnosis but I have been in contact (unfortunately no emails
from him in three weeks) with a "boy" that was 27 at diag with a psa of over
500 (the actual number eludes me right now).  An unfortunate club to join at
any age, but welcome.

There have been autopsy series in which prostate cancer has been found
in men in their 20s.
This is an incidental finding and not why they died (I believe it was
a military series), so for sure they weren't symptomatic.  Who knows
what we'd find if we did a bunch of biopsies on 20 year olds...
The development of cancer is a slow process in most cases and the
tissue goes from normal to dysplastic (abnormal but not cancer) to
cancer.  Probably everyone in this group actually could have been
diagnosed years earlier, but the cancer had not gotten to the stage of
raising the PSA yet.

Wow, that's pretty darm young! I guess it shouldn't come as a
surprise, given how radical our environments and lifestyles have
changed over time.

I still consider myself too young to be delt this hand at 48.  The
only one in the family to get it and it certainly was a blow to dad.
The news took the color out of his face for a while.

knowledge is power - growing old is mandatory - growing wise is optional

Welcome!  I hope you stay around awhile.

My dad had the symptoms at 40, but was not dx'd until 42.  DF is the current
winner in age category in this NG.  He was 39.  Lorelei's husband comes in
second at 40.  We've had a couple of 41s, but I don't think they post
anymore.  And, these are only the 300 or so that I've seen since arriving
here in 2001.

Less than 0.01?  I'll be damned.
