Background:
First Zoladex in February, second today.
Undergoing EBRT 18 down, 7 to go.
Seed implants scheduled June 10.
Continued hormone for two years.
In a meeting with my oncologist today (Dr. Blasko), I expressed concern
about my complete loss of libido and what are my chances of getting it back.
His experience is that I have a 50/50 chance of a return of sexual activity
after I'm off the hormone injections. Good odds considering I am in very
good shape and my wife and I had a very active relationship before this. I
asked him what I can do to improve my odds further. He advised to keep "it"
(I don't want to offend anyone) exercised - a job for my wife <g> I'm not
into personal abuse <vbg> He recommended 25 mg Viagra twice a week whether I
want it or not to help things along. Recommend 100 mg tablets broken in
quarters (cheaper that way) - it doesn't matter if they're not equal size -
it averages out.
In case anyone's interested,
Larry
P.S. Spellcheck hickup'd on Viagra and returned "vulgar" LOL

I was only on Lupron for 4 months, but my testosterone
has returned into the normal range after the end and
everything is still functioning.
I agree with your doctor about the "exercise". I found that,
even though my libido fell on the floor during Lupron, I
could still perform to some extent.
I found that sex during and after radiation was painful
and bloody - another downer along with the reduced
libido. But the pain and bloody ejaculate both gradually
disappeared as time went by.

That sounds strange. Everything I've seen suggests much higher chances
after hormone suppressant therapy ceases.

Might just be his way of keeping my expectations in check. Who knows? I
failed to mention that I also discussed this with my urologist and he gave a
much more glowing expectation. Maybe it has to do with the length of time
I'm on the hormone treatments. Two years seems like a very long time!

I've read patients on long term hormone treatment run some risk of not

[Oops. Pushed the wrong key combo on my last post and sent an
incomplete message.]
I've read that patients on long term HT have increasing risk
of not recovering testosterone production. But I don't know
how long the term is or what the percentage of patients is
that have the problem - or whether you can combat it by
"exercise" or other means.
I suspect your doc is doing as you say - keeping expectations
in check.

Adults only! I had to chuckle at that in your title Larry. I can't
imagine too many under 40 that read our stuff.

I'm not certain but I think we have about 3 young (under 40) wives in this
group lately.

Ha! You forgot. I'm on Lupron. It's not an interesting story.
But, since you asked. It was a couple of years after my last promotion and
I was feeling like I fit in the position. I was getting lots of accolades
from above. My wife had been just moved into management (curriculum
coordinator of a large school district). My kids were in or approaching
junior high, playing sports, old enough to play with like an adult. New
house. Nice family car (88 Grand Caravan). Still playing softball three
nights a week. It was just a nice time of life.

Sorry 'bout that JK, Just a cheap shot at the controversy regarding lines. I
