Well, today I finished my 30th and last radiation treatment. The doctor
said my PSA and urine tests indicate everything went as planned and I
will be called in for check up and PSA test in 6 months. I have to get
up and pee about 5 times a night and have a lot of gas but that should
pass in about 2 weeks I'm told. So in the mean time I'll be lurking
around.
Good luck to all who need it and don't worry too much, the chances are
your life will certainly be changed but you will overcome it.

Hi Lewis......a word of caution.....
My husband had the HDR radiation, followed by 25 EBRT treatments. He did
well....still only gets up once per night........BUT, in all the literature
we were given, they said that on Day 14 after treatment is finished, he
might get hit with a few days of fatigue. We forgot about it and went to
Quebec City and arrived on Day 14......it did happen and he was really
tired......but that is all. So just be aware that it might happen and is
not unusual.
Cheers......Heather (for Ron)

Glad to hear you have the treatments behind you, Lewis!
Now..... just concentrate on resting and getting your strength back while
the treatments do their thing and kill the cancer!
With all that gas, you might want to steer clear of open flames for the next
couple of weeks. ;)
Take care!

Ask your doctor for a RX for Flomax or Hytrin. That should help with the
number of times you get up at night.
Just wondering what your numbers and age were prior to treatment. Having 30
treatments as a mono therapy seems odd. Was it standard EBRT or IMRT?
Just remember it takes a while for the PSA to reach a true low after
radiation. Glad to hear you got through it with very little trouble.

I was 67 yrs last summer and my first PSA test showed up at 56. Bone
scan and lymph glands clear. After 6 months of hormone pills my PSA was
down to 1.8 and thats when I started radiation treatments last month. I
asked one of technicians giving me my treatments why I got 30 and some
of the others there were getting as many as 46. She said that was the
way the doctor sent up my treatment but we all got the same amount of
radiation regardless. I know my bowels went on the warpath the first
week and while the other two men I talked to went into the 3 and 4th
week before they got the runs, they had it just as bad as I do. Anyway
I'm back to work full time today and if I can get my runs when I'm at
home I should be able to cope with it. My biggest problem tonight is
this stupid keyboard which doesn't seem to want to print all te letters.
Cheers Lewis Hender.

67 and "back to work full time".
Is retirement in your future plans Lewis?
P.S. I have one of those stupid keyboards too! It never wants to
print the capital letters.

I am a security guard at a private trust company and work really doesn't
mean "work". As I spent a number of years as a police and weigh scale
officer years ago I know how to dress and act the part and the tenenants
of the builing like that. When I started my treatments I got a lovely
card of encouragement signed by 20 girls at the company. One more year
to pay for my new car and then I hope to hit the sunset trail and just
take it easy. Cheers Lewis Hender.

Congratulations, Lewis. I hope all went as well as advertized. Keep up
your walking and water regimen (assuming you started one) until all your RT
symptoms pass. I hope you killed the bastard.
