I'm passing this offer on to you guys, but I don;t think anyone of you are
in my area to take advantage of the $125 bucks?

At some point in the past you used the NexProfiler Tool for Prostate Cancer.
At the time you registered for this treatment decision tool, you indicated
that you would be interested in being contacted by NexCura, which operates
the NexProfiler Tool for Cancer, for opportunities to participate in
research questionnaires and focused discussions.

We thought you would like to know that there is a marketing research group
coming to New York City to conduct in-person interviews with Prostate Cancer
patients.

The research group is offering $125 to each patient that is willing to
participate in a one-hour, in-person interview. The goal of the interview is
for the researcher to learn from your experiences regarding the diagnosis
and treatment of your prostate cancer so that they may do a better job in
the development of pateint educational materials as well as to assist in
defining the need for new treatment options for the future.

The interviews will take place in Manhattan on Wednesday, April 14th.

In order to participate in this interview you must meet the following
criteria:
a.. You must be formally diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.
b.. If you are currently on hormonal therapy and are an early stage
patient, you must be experiencing a rise in your PSA.
c.. If you have late stage, recurrent or metastatic prostate cancer, you
must have received hormonal therapy in the past that is no longer effective
or may be receiving chemotherapy after having had hormonal therapy in the
past.
d.. You may not be employed by a pharmaceutical company.
e.. You may not have participated in marketing research about prostate
cancer in the past month.
Participation in these research interviews is limited. A preliminary
screening to confirm your eligibility to participate will be facilitated by
me. You may call me from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM (Eastern Time) at
1-877-963-9287 ext. 5 or may reach me by email by simply replying to this
email. Please provide me with a number where you may be reached during the
day and the best time to call. If you wish to share this opportunity with
others who may be eligible in your area, please have them contact me by
email or at the toll free number I have provided.

I'm a bit skeptical about this.  There are plenty of research studies
done by medical researchers about predicting the results of prostate
cancer.   I don't see what a commercial company can add.  From their web
site, it seems as if they want to provide tools to build a database they
can mine to sell things about or to sell things to.

It is also strange that they have to pay people for this.   Since my
radical prostatectomy, I've participated without payment in three
prostate cancer studies, without any payment, and I suspect any one of
us would be willing to help future prostate cancer patients this way.

I received the same email and may consider participating, only because I
work nearby.

Tom,

If you do participate, and if you don't have to sign some sort
of confidentiality agreement, please post information about your
experience.

They turned me down explaining they wanted a more specific set of
circumstances than mine. They were very  professional, and left me feeling
no doubt as to their motives Leonard.

I echo JK's comments about their professional attitude and manner. As it was
explained to me, that they are looking for participants who are currently
undergoing hormonal therapy and are experiencing a rise in PSA despite the
therapy.
