i found this at the site of a person who had a gleason of 10, but clear
nodes, so he had the RP done, only to have the cancer come back.  he
then had radiation done, and only to have it returned again years later,
he's was still fighting it, but his last entry was in the year of 2002.
but he kept making the reference to the frog poem.  as i read it, i
could understand why i meant so much to him, that i wanted to bring it
here to share.  hopefully, the frog poem will help you in your fight.

THE OPTIMISTIC FROG

Two frogs fell into a bowl of cream.
It was a deep bowl.
One frog was on optimistic soul,
but the other took the gloomy view,
"We'll drown he cried" without more adieu,
and with a last despairing cry
he flung up his legs and said goodbye.
Quoth the other frog with a merry grin,
"I can't get out, but I won't give in".
"I'll just swim around 'til my strength is spent
then will I die with more content".
So bravely he swam until it did seem,
his struggles began to churn the cream.
On top of the butter he finally stopped,
out of the bowl he gaily hopped.
What of this moral?
'tis easily found
If you can't get out, keep swimming around.

I don't know that it is analogous in our cases.  My dad had no hope at all.
Though he swam and swam until he drowned.  One of us thought doing nothing
but floating would save him, but he drowned.  A few of us swam like the
dickens and drowned anyway.

But, none of us are hoping for butter.  Some fell into milk that was easily
removed and doesn't look like it's coming back.  I fell into a stream that
gets high, then low, then high, then low again.  Me, and the rest of us, are
really looking for someone to put a straw into the milk and suck it all up.
