Skin Cancer

I don't know if I am in the right place, but hopefully, someone can help
answer a few questions for me.

Mother had an odd sore on her ear, and also one on her back.  It took
two mos. for her to see a dermatologist. She is 79, and very healthy.

Today, he removed the one on her back and said it is definitely cancer.
The one on her ear he suspects is, but sent both biopsies to the lab.

He froze and cut out the bad areas, and told her to come back in a month
to see how these have healed.

Here is my question:  If this is a serious form of skin cancer, will the
doctor call her in sooner to begin serious treatment, or should she
simply wait for one month and go back as scheduled.

I just lost my best friend today after a horrible 3-1/2 year battle with
Hodgkins and I want to be sure my Mom has the best possible treatment.

Many thanks.

My sympathy for the loss of your best friend, Kate.

It's probably one of the common skin cancers, in which case the best for
your mother has been done and very probably all that's required.  It's wait
and see now and have her ask for (a copy of) the surgery and biopsy report.
Make sure what's written on them is clear to you both.  Then it's ongoing
surveillance.

Having said that, since you've had breast cancer, cancers can appear
anywhere on the body, so have her report anything new to you and/or her GP.

I hope you rest well, thinking it's one of the common cancers and has been
taken care of.
Please let us know.

Thank you J so much.  This makes me feel more at ease.

Very much appreciated.

Fron your information I would surmise that it is NOT melanoma, the
worst kind.  Mine turned out to be "basal cell" the least
dangerous.....this was incised and cut out.  My others that have the
Liquid Nitrogen: are what is called "pre-cancerous" and frozen.  I
would say that she is in no immediate danger and the one month is
generous.  For the pre-cancer I had zapped Friday, I go back in 6
months to see if there is anything NEW because of my history.  No
follow up necessary for the ones that were zapped.
Daughters like you are what we Mothers cherish!
I understand about your friend.  The 20 year old daughter of a close
friend lost her battle a few months ago.  It is still hard to
reconcile.

Great info., and I thank you very much. This was a huge help.

Mother has had pre-cancer spots removed from her nose two times, but
never in her ear or on her back.

Your friend's daughter was much to young to die.

My heart goes out to you.

Many thanks.
