bobert - 23 Jun 2009 07:55 GMT 6 years, 3 weeks, 2 days ago, I was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer. Today I got the "Still Clear" from my Oncologist. It's now been 4 1/2 years of NED reports. Next check in 6 months.
Life Is Good. Tomorrow Barb and I are going down the coast to visit some friends who live off the grid in Big Sur. I'll take some photos and post them on the web.

You're either almost there, or past---good either way. Going from a dx of sclc to "all clear" must feel wonderful. Staying on the "all clear" for years should keep the smile on your face.

When I was diagnosed in 2003, I read on the net that 5 yr Dx was the normal period for cancer patients to wait for the "Its gone" pronouncement, and for SCLC it's 6 yr. because it is an aggressive type of cancer. 5 yr of NED also sounds reasonable, too. What ever the number, it is great to have ANY NED report. In my mind I am celebrating Both numbers now. I'll get my next scan at about the 5 yr, NED mark.
Still sleeping with one eye open so it can't sneak up on me. :=)
The trip down the coast was not productive as far as photos were concerned. It was extremely foggy Tuesday with the fog rolling over the highway. It gave the illusion that we were driving in a tunnel through the fog. The road heat and cars moving through the fog creates this affect. It's a neat visual, but not good for photographs. The coast was largely obscured. That's not unusual for this coast. The Central coast is in the fog belt. Our house seems to be overcast 2/3 of the time. It's only 1/2 crow mile from the beach. Go 5 miles inland and it could be 100+ degrees in the summer and 60 at the coast. Oh, well I *could* be in Phoenix. 103 at 1:30 am (I've seen it do that.)
We are going to have a 2 day heat wave this weekend. Predicted high 72 degrees http://www.ksbw.com/weather/18647202/media.html?qs=;longname=7%20Day;shor tname=7Day;days=&ib_wxwidget=true#HEARSTWX=http%3A//www.ksbw.com/weather/ 811979/media.html%3Fqs%3D%3Bref%3D/weather/18647202/media.html%3Blongname %3D7%2520Day

After the June Gloom I will try to get some pics. I have many on my hard drive. I may put some on the web one of these days. I'll report when I do.
All possible love to all,

What I'm getting is the coast is cooler? 72 a heatwave? We're in a heatware 22 degrees C = 97F? (5 am) Going up to 27C today (feels like 33 with the humidity) = 117? (not sure I'm doing the math right) Hot and sunny tumorrow, then 5 days of some sun and mostly showers. I like when it's warm/hot. Tornadoes ripped through part of our Province yesterday. I don't have the full report but saw one tornado barrelling through a house - it was totalled but she saved herself and one cat. Other cat unknown as of last night. J - with the weather report. :)

(not sure I'm doing the math right) No, you are NOT doing the math right. 25C is 80F ! I don't do the math, I use a dual thermometer and just look! I have many friends in Europe I am looking many times.

Yes, mine was wrong. I started from the right instead of the left (with the formula) F = 32 + (C*9/5) So 22C = 71F 25C= 77F and 25C = 91.4 F
European calculations might vary; but there's no mention of it in my calculator's booklet (and buttons). It does have different calculations/buttons for Imperial gals to litres, Imperial t to kg and Imperial fl.oz to ml J
turtletrot1 - 29 Jun 2009 13:54 GMT "European calculations might vary........." I believe that Celcius is Celcius the world over, and the same with Fahrenheit! There is no way that a Celcius reading would vary in Europe as opposed to North America,.

So was that the humidity level you were reading on your dual thermometer, eyesight problem or the thermometer needs replacing? 25C is not 80F ! * When my kids were studying all this stuff (conversion from Celsius to Fahrenheit), I told them this.
Remember: Celsius: 10, 20, 30.
10 is a cool day. 20 is a perfect day. 30 is a hot day.
10 C is 50 F. 20 C is 68 F. 30 C is 86 F.
I always remember 16 and 61 (16 C is the same as 61 F) And remember 23 and 73 (23 C is the same as 73 F)
And if it's 40 below zero -- it doesn't make any difference -- Celsius and Fahrenheit are exactly the same!)

Hopefully we'll never experience that, although colder temperatures are easier to tolerate if the humidity is low. I don't know the temperature these days except that it's been cool and rainy. Thanks for your input, Earle.
I just looked up " Ano Nuevo State Reserve" and its "the site of the largest mainland breeding colony of the northern elephant seal." Very interesting, but reminds me I meant to look up wild turkeys (in our Province). I don't know what I'd do without the internet. It's sometimes better than an encyclopedia. I've just been reading about low E glass. Got everything I wanted to know, on one page (except pricing) of the 3 types.
Have a good day, Earle and take care, J

I look forward to seeing the photos. Off the grid is really interesting to me, so I hope you'll share details. Have a wonderful, safe visit. J

I saw my ENT on Friday and after 3 years I'm also NED. I got my checkups reduced from every 3 months to every 6 months, too.

I requested (and got) a few extra 3 month checkups. One found mets to my brain. I'm I've been on a 6 month cycle for the last couple of years, and don't plan to change it any time soon.
Ain't it a great feeling to be upgraded? Or is it a downgrade?

We bought a regular stuck to dirt house in 2005 and continued to RV part time for a couple of years, but DH's health is not good so we sold the last RV and now we travel like "normal" folks in a Honda Civic, and airplane or a cruise ship.

That sounds a lot worse than being injected with radioactive sugar and having to be still for an long while. Does the snake do a visual check of the insides of passages?

I had the scan with the radioactive sugar. They gave me some really nice relaxation medicine. I wanted to know if they gave it as take-out. That stuff was wonderful!

Cooking does. Sorry for the slow reply---busy lately. The nose probe sounds very unpleasant. For that, I'd certainly want relaxation meds, or more. They don't give me anything for the PET/CT; they just expect me to be still for a while on my own. Being a bit of a finger-tapper, that's an effort.
