I finally started my chemo this Monday, 5-FU/Luc/Oxal and will be
disconnected from my carry-around pump tomorrow.

I have had no side-effects. None. No nausea in spite of over-eating,
no cold touch neuropathy from the Oxal in spite of eating ice cream
(don't worry I tested it slowly first). I may also be a lucky one
getting a phase III KZ something or other clinical trial.

So I'm taking (maybe) 4 drugs round the clock w no side effects. Do
these show up right away? I got the impression from the onc staff that
mostly that's the case.  Has anyone not had ANY side-effects? Is that
possible? Hey, I can dream can't I?

This is GREAT!  Don't knock it or question it.  Just enjoy and
appreciate it.  Perhaps they are doing a good job at pre-medicating you
to keep the side effects to a minimum.

Nausea usually happens pretty quickly, but not always.
Neuropathy, at least in my case, seems to develop over time, and seems
to be cumulative.

If this is what you want, and it will work for you, that would be
great!  I wish you luck in that.

Every person is different, and will respond to the drugs
differently.  If you never get any side effects, be happy and give
thanks to your diety, if you have one.  I hope you never have any side
effects.

I had 5FU with Cisplatin, and the thing that was most annoying to
me was that every round, I got a different batch of side effects, so I
could not even prepare for them on the subsequent rounds.  Overall, the
worst side effects happened at the earliest rounds for me.  I send you
the best of luck!

I had 5 FU and Mitomycin and absolutely NO after effect of any kind. I was
even very concerned because I thought I was terminally ill and they were
giving me distilled water instead of chemo because I was not worth it.

Douglas did you have 5 Fu and Cisplatin for anal or colon cancer ( or
something else )

Unsure of exact origin.  Presumed gastric/esophageal adenocarcinoma.

Hi Joe....
My friend who has colon cancer didn't feel any effects at first either.  It
seemed to be cumulative but didn't ever get as bad as she had anticipated.
I'll have to try and get you two together to talk, but she doesn't go on the
computer too much.  She too is doing  some kind of clinical trial.  The way
she explained it is she is doing treatment for stage 4 even though she is
stage 3.  Does that make sense? Hope that helps a little.  Sue

Hi, I am an ovarian cancer survivor .  The chemo I had was Taxol and
carboplatin.
I felt good all the way through 17 treatments. I was surprised myself
because I had read all the information about what could happen.
I lost all my hair of course but that wasn't so bad.
I was able to eat well and do everything I wanted to .
My doctor kept me off work for that time but now I'm back full time and
feeling very well.

Hope you have as good a time with your chemo as I did
