I am checking in. It has been a long time I know, but we have been
busy with the new Grandson and holidays and all. Hubby is stillhanging
in there, but getting more tired much easier. He has accepted that
this thing isn't going to go away, and told his Hospice Nurse the
other day, "I am not afraid to die, I just don't want to leave
everyone". He has a raspy voice now and spends more time in bed on the
oxygen than he does up. His mind isn't good some days and he tends to
be forgetful and easily distracted. We are enjoying every visit with
the baby as much as possible and that is the thing I think that keeps
Grandpa going.

Take care all,

Husband has Stage 4 NSCLC with metastases to the brain, multiple
lesions.

Hello Becky,
Thank you for the update.
It's good to see that grandpa's made it through to the joys of Christmas
and still looking forward to making more memories. Blessings to you all.
I'll be thinking of you.

Becky,

It's great to hear from you & to hear that you & Craig enjoyed another
Christmas together with little Daniel.  We all know the bittersweet quality
of these occasions & how special the simple things can be.

Are you still able to work from home?

Hoping for lots more quality time for all of you.  Thanks for checking in.

> Hi Fig,

Same to you! I hope you had a good holiday.  Yes still working from
home. I work for a wonderful company and my manager is top notch. I
discussed FMLA with the hospice nurse last week and she said I should
probably look into my options. Mainly because as the days go on, I am
increasingly tired and seem to be busy with work, house work, dinner
dishes etc. Craig isn't up to helping out to much any more. They have
started Craig on Haldol because he is getting anxious very easliy. So
he has been having some weird dreams this week. I think their thought
is to keep him in bed, but he wants to get up and do stuff so it will
take a whole lot of something to keep him from doing that. It was a
wonderful christmas, and while I know it is probably not going to be,
I am hoping for another year. It has been 14 months. At times it seems
like forever, and others not so long ago.

Take care,
Becky

Hello Becky,
It does sound like time for FMLA soon. You've been running high-paced for
quite a while now.

I'm sure you'll appreciate having more time with Craig and time to relax and
catch your breath.
My aunt stopped everything at my uncle's diagnosis;  clubs, volunteering,
committees and boards.
Never regretted at all and picked up later where she'd left off.
He had other thoughts about their thinking about keeping him in bed.
Apparently he had several falls- nothing too damaging though.

I can sure understand not wanting to spend a lot of time in bed; unless there
was a wide-screen TV on the ceiling, for sports or movies and a roof window to
visit with friends and relatives sun-bathing on the roof. <g>
I wish I'd run that by my uncle at the time. I think he would have gotten a
kick out of it.

Wishing you many more sunshine, loving and laughing days together.
Hugs

Hi, Becky,
I'm with you all the way on FMLA.  As you may know, it doesn't have to
be either working or not.  You can take off completely or just the hours
you want.  You could cut your schedule way back & still keep some of the
work going.  It wasn't an option for me as I was self-employed at the
time, but I did start taking lots of Fridays off & I worked from home
quite a bit. We'd go to ball games, out to eat &/or I could get caught
up on chores/shopping.

Stay in bed?  Socks didn't until the final few days in the hospice
facility & even then he'd sit in a chair sometimes.  Toward the end I
was concerned, but he promised not to climb stairs without calling me.
I was amazed he still made it to the bathroom & would get himself to a
recliner from his hospital bed at home.  He mostly wanted to come
upstairs at night & used the hospital bed during the day.  He took a
nasty fall on the stairs when his aunt was here with him, & I think that
made him 'behave,'  Make sure

I hope Craig does OK on the Haldol.  I understand some of those meds can
cause some pretty frightening dreams, even waking dreams.  If the dreams
continue, maybe they could try some other med?

Yeah, sometimes it seems liek you've been with us longer than that.

Take good care,
Fig

I think she's already been doing that and is now wanting whole time devoted
to Craig.

Hi Fig and J,

I went ahead with FMLA full time. The hospice nurse says that for the
last several weeks she is seeing a steady decline. It is hard for me
to see this because I am here everyday. But I have been reporting
things to her like his feet being red, the nurse calls it dusky, his
breathing seems to stop for several seconds and then starts again, he
eats about 4 bites at meals and says he is stuffed, and he has lost
weight to the tune of 10to 15 lbs every week or so. Judging by some of
the things he says, the nurse and I both think the brain mets have
started up again, she also thinks there is liver involvement. So....in
my humble opinion, it was time for me to stop working to devote all my
time to him. I think the nurse is very happy about it because she has
been very worried about me over the last few weeks. She hasn't said,
but FMLA is up to 12 weeks or 89 calendar days as our HR rep told me
but I don't think I will use all of that up. The hospice social worker
said that she had talked to the nurse and she agreed. It has been very
hard the last couple of days because I am now seeing what has really
been going on right in front of me but I didn't have time to stop and
think about it. I see that we are headed to where we were last March.
Sorry to go on and on. You guys are the best.
Take Care,
Becky

Thanks for the update, Becky.
I'll understand you wanting to be with Craig and family.
Anytime (you feel like posting), I'm here reading and caring.
