I am looking for information on precancerous cells. I have looked all
over the internet but all I can come up with is information on
Breast/Cervical precancerous cells.
My hubby called this morning after talking with his dermatologist.
What every thought was a wart on his finger came back from the biopsy
as having precancerous cells.
Does anyone know a good website or can explain to me exactly what that
means. Cancer runs in the male side of his family and I am wondering
how much we should persue this to make sure there isn't cancer
anywhere else.
Thanks!

Hi,

I think this website explains that a regular all over exam is recommended
on a regular basis, especially since skin cancers are more frequent due to
sun damage before some of us knew the risks.

So check each other when swimming or getting out of the bath, and don't
forget the scalp also.
Hopefully, it's nothing serious.
I've had a number of "precancerous" or troublesome skin type lesions or
moles removed many years ago and I'm still fine.
Hope this helps

Try looking for "dysplasia", which is the more usual term for precancerous
cellular changes. In a skin lesion the most likely finding was the
dysplasia which is quite common in solar keratoses (sun spots). It is
precancerous, but not at all worrying if the lesion is excised. Most
resultant skin cancers also have an excellent prognosis.
