He has vocal cord paralysis.  Would this mean it's already spread and much
worse than we are hoping?  Thank you for any information.  He is so sad and
depressed.  We have cried all day.  I'm so scared.  I'm going to help take
care of him, he doesn't have much family.  With him and my father it's going
to be hard.  But I intend to help both of them no matter what.

The variables are numerous, there isn't much info to go on, and only a
doctor should give an assessment of the patient's prognosis.

That said, there are lots of different types of lung cancer. Some spread
very quickly, some more slowly. Some are Primary lung cancer, other are
metasteses from other cancer elsewhere in the body. In general, though, lung
cancer in an advanced stage, where it is causing physical symptoms, has a
very poor prognosis for survival.
