I've been lurking for while until last month. I'm sure you'll hear
more from me. Nothing like hanging out with "been there done that"
people.

I was originally diagnosed CR stage III, but high CEA level led my onc
to get me a PETscan which showed two "spots" -  one on my liver and
one in my right lung. So I guess I'm upgraded (now there's an irony
for you... UPgraded .. to a worse condition) to stage IV now. Chemo
starts in a week using a port.

My question is why not surgery? Is it so hard to remove "spots" from
the lung or liver? I mean they did a resection on me and I'm back to
jogging 3 weeks later.

My onc said there are some new promising drugs coming down the pike.
It's comforting know that if the current ones don't help that all is
not lost, and that by then there will be new ones to try.

Trying to hang in there like the rest of you ....

Try surgically removing grapes from a bagel... won't work... If you at
stage IV, you likely have a lot more metastases than are seen on
scans. They are small but lurking. So removing visible ones is usually
not helpful, does not improve survival or morbidity.
