Well I've completed 9 of 35 RT's, with taxol & carboplatin once a week.
Of the 3 tumors on my neck, 2 are no longer outwardly detectable and the
largest one(about the size of an XL egg) has reduced in size by 80-90%.
I am beginning to feel the side effects of the RT. Continuous dry mouth,
raspy throat, very sensitive to cold drinks, feels like ice shards
scraping my throat, warm drinks are soothing. My tongue feels swollen
and scratchy as a cat's. Swallowing food (luke warm)is OK but somewhat
restricted. Nothing tastes right but I eat it anyway. Milk product seem
to curdle as soon as ingested, so I've pretty much given up on them.
Oddly, it seems to affect the texture of foods as well, most foods don't
seem to feel right either.
26 more days of RT to go. Then 3 weeks to recoop before 2 weeks of full
blown chemo then I get evaluated for possible (probable) surgery.
That's it for now,
Peter

Sounds about right Peter. Things shrinking sounds even better.
Tedious isn't it? The Rad Onc may give a scrip for a mouthwash. Let them
knkow. You swish it and swallow it. Makes things go down better. Pretty neat
stuff.
Brush with baking soda for relief also.
Almost done with my radiation. 11 more days of this excitement. Really
screws up your day. I can actually feel the difference in the size of the
tumor.
Be well and foods will improve in taste eventually.

I find the baking soda salt water rinse to be quite effective. Good to
hear your tumor is shrinking. Do you expect to need surgery?

Nope. It was a tad over 5/16 inch to begin with and has shrunk. I bet it
just disolves like the other three did.
Where this is sitting I could do it myself.

Do the baking soda rinses several times a day. They really help.

Yea, the rinse really helps. They ask everyday if I want the feeding
tube, but I'm determined to get through this without it.

You might just not need it. All of us react differently.

Good for you for keeping the nutrition going, Peter.
There's a lot of "head and neckers" here, so you'll get tips from time to
tme.
Keep in touch.
Best,
J
