She never smoked EVER! She probably got it from the mental hospital
she worked at for years. What do you think are my chances of getting
any kind of cancer?

Trolling a cancer support newsgroup is pretty f.cking pathetic. I know
you've heard this many times before, but let me say it again- you are a
loser.

What are you talking about?

Simple. Follow along.

a)- Username: KorpseM
b)- Newsgroup server: Google Groups
c)- Syntax: Grammar school- " She never smoked EVER! "
d)- Ignorance: " She probably got it from the mental hospital she worked at
for years. "
e)- The 'bait' question: " What do you think are my chances of getting any
kind of cancer? "

Do you have anything better to do? She didn't smoke so we don't know
where it came from. I'm just curious... I heard it skips a generation
meaning my kids would have it. I think you're the troll sir.

Can't get anything past you.. Yes, cancer skips a generation. Like baldness,
or rickets.

Have you purchased anything on an infomercial lately? They have some good
cancer preventatives on TV.

Chances of getting cancer? about 1:3
Chances of getting lung cancer if you don't smoke? About 20 times less than
a smoker, but unfortunately not zero

Hello lonelyone,

I am sorry to read about your mom.

My late husband suffered the same fate as your mom, probably got his NSCLC
in the workplace.  Never smoked & was an anti-smoking activist.  You might
be interested in the following site.  This is the only organization I know
of that's taking on lung cancer as a cause.  They have lots of info &
have/had a lung cancer awareness campaign going in NYC & San Francisco
including posters on mass transit.  Other than this, I haven't found much
in the way of lung cancer research anywhere.  The belief seems to be stop
smoking & the problem goes away.  That's a huge part, but not all.

It sucks when people contract a fatal illness from earning a living.

My mom died of lung cancer but she smoke. When I was evaluated at the
high risk clinic were you meet with a  genetic counselor, my mom's
cancer was not considered a risk factor.

Lonelyone, I'm very sorry to learn you have lost your Mum.
Was this recent? You have lost your best pal, and there will
be a vacuum for a long time.My sincere condolences.
Regarding your chances of getting any kind of cancer,
I'm no expert but I would say they are no greater
and no lesser than most people's. |Try not to worry about it.
That's not the way to go through life.Have a positive outlook
- look forward each morning with hope, look back
each night with gratitude.Prayer and meditation can help enormously.
Develop your interests, and be more outward-looking.
The 'feel-good' factor is a powerful influence.
Write here as often as you like if it helps.
Best wishes,

Old Bill.

I'm sorry about your mom and don't know any magic words for you. I lost my
hubby April 28, and there are no words. Stay strong.

Peace,
Giuditta

Thank you very much! Prior to my mom's passing she was pretty strong
before she received chemo therapy and I honestly believe that it made
her worse. When she was diagnosed with cancer it was already in stage
4 and the doctor suggested to not go through with it. But my mom
really wanted to live as long as she could for me. I think she was
more worried about me than herself. Does anyone feel the same way
about chemo theraphy? It was so hard to watch because at periods of
times she would be confused and not know where she was and talk about
things that weren't really there. What puzzles me most is that she
never to hardly took her pain medication. I guess she wanted a clear
mind. Although she never expressed she was in any pain. It haunts me
everyday. I don't know what else to say I just would like to know
others experiences on chemo theraphy. Take care all!

They recommended she not do it, but she did it anyway? Chemo has to cause
some damage in order to provide a benefit. It's a case of the lesser of two
evils.

At the time no one knew (us) and she had a  very strong will to
survive. I wish I knew before hand I would of told her not to. But
it's hard knowing someone is so sick and you can't do anything but
watch. So any treatment sounded good. Either way if the doctors knew
what they were doing they should of never let her do it.

You can't look back.  You did what you could, the best you could.  And
that is all anyone can do.
