Was it you speaking of allergies a week or so ago?

I was at the Rad. Onc's yesterday and she was telling me how bad her allergies had been. I agreed, since mine are giving he a heck of a time too. She uses a dab of butter inside each nostril each morning and night. It grabs the pollen before it irritates your sinuses. Certainly worth a try.

I did have a couple of bad allergy days, but I didn't remember posting
about them.  I do have some butter, so I'll try it next time. Thanks,
Betsy.  Have you tried yet?  Allergies can be such an intermittent thing,
at least for me.

I have just come from a visit with my sister who suffers tremendously
from allergies.....  she tried everything and out of desperation,
tried something quiet simple - although it does not sound pleasant to
me and she admits that she has done stuff that has been more fun...
You know those things they use to suck out a baby's mouth when its
born?  Plastic bubble thing with a thin opening - about $1.50 at the
drug store........ she makes a mixture of warm salt water- not too
much salt, and squirts it up each nostril.......  Today is day two
that she has not had to use it and is not sniffling or suffering at
all!  Even her eyes have stopped looking all watery!
Just thought I would pass that on to you..maybe it will work for you
too.  It was wonderful to be able to visit and speak with her without
her sneezing and feeling awful!
Take care

I've seen that done. The person has to have head sideways, so that what gets squirted up one nostril comes out the other nostril, not into the sinuses.

I understand the other theory of greasing up the hairs in the nostrils.
I don't think I'd eat at Betsy's doctors house though if she uses butter. <smile or ugh>
I think I'd use baby oil or petroleum jelly.

For those who get no relief that way, our doctor's handing out Aerius samples. His secretary says it's the best thing she's ever taken for sneezing, itchey, runny eyes and nose.  Says it's the first in many years, that her allergies have not been bad at all.

I have been using cocoa butter instead of butter for the same reasons. I did
try the butter the first couple days. The whole idea grossed me out and I
switched. I have saline squirt bottles to loosen up the phlem in my sinuses.

My doc doesen't like the pre-made ones like Ocean.  He prefers that I
make up my own solution fresh each time & it's not that hard to mix
warm water, salt & a pinch of baking soda.  If he had his way, I'd be
doing this every day as part of an oral hygeine/health program.  I
have to say I like the results when I do.  His technique involves
pouring the solution into the palm & <in a very lady-like manner:-)>
snorting the solution into the nostrils (be over a sink).  Repeat
until the measuring cup is empty.  Somehow, I rarely find time for
this.

Snorting in the shower is far better.
