All right I will go first. SSDD. Just waiting for next Wednesday to get the

want immediate answers. Wish I could have scheduled it better.
I am volunteering at our local Library just to fill my days.

oh, same stuff, dfferent day (i had to look it up).
I thought that might be an acronym for your type of cancer. <g>
We'll hope the days will fly by for you, Betsy and it'll be good news.
What exactly are you doing at the library?  Tell us later, if you're too busy.
I'm just curious.
I'll be watching for your update.

I am so glad you caught the meaning. I sure didn't want to explain it
online? RE; the Library: I am the Craft book lady. I go in and straighten
out the whole aisle and put the books back into numerical order. Not
difficult, after 18 years in a warehouse, numbers come easy to me.
I am seldom too busy for anything I am intrerested in.

laudible volunteering. You must one tough gal.
I did similar for years but eventually found it too hard on the back and the
knees.
Interesting work though. Get to leaf through other people's choices and
discover more books of interest
Thanks for explaining, Betsy..

Becky,
Glad to hear things are still going so well. I hope you both enjoy a
wonderful summer together, preparing for that grandson's arrival.  Your
first grandchild?  Do the parents-elect live nearby?

Yes, our first. I think that is what is keeping him going. I only hope
his health stays as strong as his will is right now. Our son and
daughter in law are about 10 mins away. So Grandpa is already sending
the kids home with train sets, car tracks etc.....I don't think our
son or Craig have had this much fun together in a long time. Our
Granson's name will be Daniel. We are really excited. It's hard
sometimes to be excited but not really know, oh well we are trying to
go by the minute and not worry about the rest till we have to. Our
affairs are in good order so no worries there.

That's so wonderful, Becky.
Craig and his son getting together in a common interest in preparation for the grandchild.
Are you getting videos of all this?  I hope so.  Daniel will so appreciate seeing them.
Many hugs and thanks for sharing.

Not videos, Craig is a little camera shy right now, and we have lots
of video from when our son was little and they played. We will when
Craig feels good about it. Pictures however are another thing, thanks
to digital photography, you can take pictures now that almost no one
can hear unless it is very quiet in the room. :>)
Our son didn't ever really say much about it till recently, both
because of the situation and the baby, but he admitted he had tons of
fun with his Dad.
Right now I have fingers and toes crossed hoping all will continue on
this path for a bit longer.

HI,
I realize you can keep everyone straight all of the time but I never once
did I say my dad had glioma. he has primary sarcoma in the brain. I might of
mentioned they were thinking of going to use a chemo drug that primary is
used for that form of brain cancer. they didn't. now he is looking at end of
life chemo that might prolong his life another month or two but he doesn't
was to go out being sick so I guess that is out.

It is kind of funny cause dad looks better now than he ever did even tho he
has only a short time left. He is even getting up and doing some light
things ( like fishing)
We noticed some changes in his personality and he is much quicker to anger
now.

Sorry about the mistake, Lynn.
If you saw how I do it, you'd understand.
I have 3+ years of posts, 50,214 posts. I sort them by poster name, then arrow
down or up to get the names of people and types of cancer, until my arm gets
tired. Some comes from memory.
When you joined, you entered a thread of PL's whose relative had a glioma and
that was your first post Hence how the mistake happened. My apology.

I don't remember talking about chemo, but maybe you did mention it. I would
think it would take a very high dose of more than one for the brain to have some
effect. There's also carmustine wafers...inserted during surgery. I don't know
of anyone whose had that done. Sounds like the wafers are impregnated with chemo
and are placed around the outside of the brain and they release the chemo over a
period of 3 weeks.  Some places say for inoperable tumors; some say for mets,
some say only for high grade gliomas. I don't know the downsides; whether they
have to be removed else somethiing negative happens... same for brachytherapy.
Perhaps they're out of the question for any number of reasons.
<http://www.tbts.org/itemDetail.asp?categoryID=368&itemID=16380>

It's good to hear he's getting some fishing in and looking better.  Hard to know
if the anger is due to the effect, of the tumor, on the brain or coming to
terms.
Thanks for the update, Lynn. You'll all be in my thoughts.

TRC - 17 May 2007 20:16 GMT
CT scan in December, 2006 showed: 1) An unexpected increase in the volume of
fluid/debris filling the left hemithorax - could be the result of hemorrhage
from resection site or malignant effusion. 2) A 4 mm nodule in the right
lung apex.  3) Thyroid goiter unchanged.  4) Left hepatic cyst - stable.
(Note:  I was very sick; bad cough, congestion, fever.  I went to the ER on
Xmas Eve hoping they would drain that fluid, but they admitted me. TX
consisted of Solumedrol which I think worsened my breathing, etc., no
improvement after 6 days, they actually thought I was having an asthma
attack, discharged with home oxygen.)

PET scan in January, 2007:  1) Rind of blood pool, irregular hypermetabolism
at the periphery of the enlarging left pneumonectomy space suspicious for
recurrence within the pneumonectomy space. 2) New 14 mm mildly
hypermetabolic (SUV 2.4), 14 mm left supraclavicular lymph node also
indeterminate but suspicious for recurrent/metastasis. 3) No evidence of
mets below the hemidiaphragm. 4) Stable goiter.  (Finally my pulmonolgist
schedules a thoracentesis and I could breath again!!!  No more oxygen).  But
on bronchoscopy the doc found that my trachea collapses and was very mushy
on expiration and he could not get down to my stump.  Says he wants to try
again but I'm not sure about that.  The biopsies he did get were benign,
also the fluid 1.3 liters was all benign - YEAH! Chest x-ray showed that
everything had moved back into position where it had been.

To date I have been doing okay. Still messing around with anti-thyroid drug
dose but at least it did not grow over the past six months.  I think I have
lost some ground as I get very fatigued if I do too much, strength loss,
etc.  I am no longer working because of my cough (very loud and frightening
to some, sometimes quite painful to sternum area and surgical site),
fibromyalgia, etc., and am applying for SS disability which is proving to be
tiresome in itself, BUT the sun is shining - YEAH.

Next CT in June.

Thanks for being here!

All done for a bit. I have a nodule that seems to be getting bigger. Right
upper body behind my clavicle by the port a cath. It is 8mm and was barely
showing three months ago. Cannot be felt thru my skin. I was raised in the
USA and have no a clue about how large 8mm is? Nothing online tells me
either.
Another Pet Scan in three months and an appt with the Radiation Oncologist
tomorrow. Check up

Me too, Betsy and everytime we get  new MRI results they change it
from cm to mm. Here is a link I used. http://mdmetric.com/tech/cvtcht.htm

Hi Betsy,

1 millimeters = 0.0393700787 inches. 8 millimeters = 0.3149606296 inches.

So you might evaluate 8 mm. as being "close" to one-third of a inch, or,
more accurately, as about 5/16th. of one inch.

There are "loads" of conversion calculators on the web :

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=convert+millimeters+to+inches

Go to a bead shop or a craft store and find the 8mm beads. It should
give you a perfect idea of the size.

1 cm = 10 mm, so it's just under 1 cm.
I have a ruler, shows inches and cm/mm.

From my days with a VW (bug and Busses)

1/2 inch =about 12 mm
1/4 inch =about 6mm
so 8mm would be about 3/8 inch

Old Bill.

p.s. it's just under 3/8ths of an inch.
A rough guide would be 1 inch equals 2 1/2 centimetres.

Just had a CT Tuesday and didn't hear a peep out of the doc on Wednesday.
(Saw doc Monday; should have had the scan done before that but scheduled
things badly.) I'll be dropping by the facility to get my own copies of
the radiologist's report and the pictures tomorrow or Friday.

Got my copy of the report today. There's one lymph node that's still growing,
and I don't like that. It was originally 4 mm, grew to 7 and now it's 12 mm.
However, everything else is the same as it was last time. Time to talk to
the doc.
