Hello Group,

I recieved treatment #14 of 20 yesterday of consolidative radiotherapy
for Hodgkin's Lymphoma to the right mediastinum & lower neck. I've been
in remission since 9/15, but was given quite a scare yesterday. When I
went in for my treatment, my rad onc kind of "freaked out" because I'd
lost 10 pounds in a week, and I had been experiencing moderate fever
(100.5°F to 103.0°F) since Saturday. I tried to explain that I have
been trying to lose the weight because of how much I had gained since
April (45 lbs), and that not eating was rather simple because it hurt
to swallow. She didn't bite, and off to the emergency room I went for
the next 6 hours. All of my blood work came back fine, chest X-rays
showed nothing new, and the quick strep culture came back negative (I
guess there was another culture done, but it won't be back for a few
days). Lungs sounded "mostly clear". I have a radiation induced cough.
For all intents and purposes no sign of relapse (THANK GOD). However, I
have spent quite a bit of time researching this since it happened, and
have only found one small blurb from the NCI that stated fever may be
associated with chest radiation. I can find no other references
pointing to that. I guess I just want to find out whats causing the
fever. TIA.
