Hi Folks,
Just wondering if anyone knows where one might find some sort of
contraption to help keep one's mouth closed while we sleep,
I have to sleep on my back with head elevated ever since surgery because
of acid reflux issues. I don't want to take pills
for it because they cause your stomach acids to go screwy and you don't
properly digest food. Problem is when I sleep on my back my mouth flops
open while I sleep and because of the chemo it gets extremely dry and
I'm up and down all night drinking water for the dry mouth and peeing
out the water so I don't sleep well.
I've considred a lot of things to try, many probably would be considered
a bit out there and have tried the toothpaste that says it's for dry
mouth but it doesn't work.
I'm sure I'm not the first person with ths problem and they prolly make
a contraption for it.

You have probably seen the neck pillows filled with beans you lay behind
your neck? Bet if you wore it backwards, it might keep your mouth in a
better position? Either that or tie your mouth shut like they used to show,
when you had a toothache?

There is a mouth spray called "Oasis" which is excellent for dry mouth.
You might want to check with a dentist to see if such an appliance as
you describe exists.

Here it is the one I was thinking of: http://www.cpapman.com/chnstrps.html
If you google either CPAP masks or chin straps you could probably find
others.

Sorry my thoughts are so scattered but I was thinking there is probably a
medical supply outfit near you that sells these, you want one that sells
CPAP equipment and you would find them in the yellow pages under medical
supplies, respiratory supplies or perhaps call a sleep disorder clinic and
ask them where the closest place would be.

Thanks for the advice, I will look for the cpap places in my area. My
wife uses a cpap machine, never dawned on me to take a closer look at
it.

Ooops - sorry I sent this to your home:
Hi JW -
There is a support group for sleep disorders (alt.support.sleep-disorders)
that I joined because of my sleep apnea. There are sites listed there (and
I will try to locate some for you) with regards to what you need. They do
make such things. I will research and get back here with those sites.
