Thanks for the update on Penny, I hope the pump does the trick. I wish
she could have been in hospice sooner. I know she was being seeing by
the Pallative care team but often in the US the Pallative team overlaps
with the hospice team, this could explain the gap in Penny's care.

Janet said she was staying in Houston for awhile, I assumed this was

I talked to Dad and I hope I get this all right. They took her off the
morphine because she was showing signs of toxicity. From my understanding
she's now on hydromorphone. They wanted to start her off slowly on Friday
but unfortunately it wasn't enough and she ended up in emergency during the
night in alot of pain and have upped the dosage.
From the sounds of things her doctor is going to try and get her in
palliative care at the hospital as soon as possible rather then her going
into the hospice. I imagine if they can't get her into the hospice right
away that she'll go into the hospital. She needs to get the pain under
control. I should know more in the next few days about that as well as what
the results from the blood test show and will let you know. She's quite
jaundice so I'm sure it'll just confirm that the liver isn't functioning
very well.
Her kids are with her today and Michael has taken the week off work. She
finds it too difficult and tiring to type but IS reading her email and the
posts. I know she appreciates very much everyone's thoughts and prayers as
we all do.

Trish, my heart goes out to all of you. They simply must get Penny's pain
under control.no matter what it takes. I know different meds can be flowed
through the pump including sedatives & then there's a PICC line as well.
Not trying to play Doctor, but there have been so many trips to the
emergency room for out-of-control pain (& other times when she almost went)
that it doesn't seem like they're finding the correct meds/doses. Maybe if
she's in-patient, things will improve. I sure hope so. For her sake & all
of yours.
Much love to you all,
Fig

Pain control is a priority, I am surprised they didn't admit for pain
control. A waiting list for hospice. A picc line is a device for IV access
and maybe totally unnecessary. Hopefully the new medication will do the
trick, Alex

When the pump didn't work for Socks, they inserted the PICC line for pain
control meds. Thought that might work. They were to flow another med -
one he hadn't had. He'd maxed out on opiates. She may not need, but I
hadn't heard of PICC lines being used for pain meds so wanted to get that
out there.

I am guessing the pump was SQ and not IV and your husband had no IV access
therefore needed a picc. We don't know if that is Penny's case. I do know
onething, Penny is too nice. She should DEMAND pain control and in the
shortest time frame possible. If they have to admit her short term or
expedite her hospice admission they should just do it.

Thank for the update Trish, though it's definitely not what I wanted to
read. I've been checking Penny's log every day and know things are not
looking good. Penny I think of you every day and hope with all my heart
that the pain subsides and they're able to make you feel more
comfortable and you don't have to suffer anymore.

Penny, I'm sending my love to you and hoping for a resolution to the
pain problem.
Peace, Pen.
