Hello ppl, I have been lurking n reading the various posts and answers so I
know a few of the ppl here .. J big respect for you. My very close friend
was diagnosed with leukemia about 8 months ago. I don't know the full
details of her illness or the treatment she received but I do know she had
some heavy chemo prior to receiving a bone marrow transplant from her
brother, it wasn't a perfect tissue match but close. She was on anti
rejection drugs and has made good progress. The difference in her appearance
is fantastic, her skin colour has come back she has lots of energy but about
10 days ago had a bone marrow biopsy and was told her graft hadn't fully
taken and her white blood count was low. She's due to see a specialist soon.
I love this girl dearly and want to know what it means when her white cells
are low and her graft hasn't taken. I hate to sound ignorant but I want to
know.

Hello,
thanks for your kinds words and kudos, of course, to Steph as well.
He's been here longer than I have.

I don't usually get involved in bloodwork: the WBC is part of a larger picture,
the CBC (complete blood count) and so mentioning one is sort of out of context,
not to mention that with leukemia there are other complex bloodworks that are
done.  In other words; I don't know the answer, especially since she's been on
anti-rejection medicines. So unless someone else here does, it will have to wait
until she sees her specialist.

If you can, go with her and take some questions and write the answers down for
her. If not possible, I guess we'll all have to wait until she hears from the
specialist and relays the info to you.

I'll be hoping it's just a blip and the next bloodwork will be okay and that
there's nothing too ominous about that bit of bloodwork. Please let us know how
she and your doing, ok?
Sorry I couldn't help on this one.
J
