Met with the Rad Onc at 10:30 today and was told that he would go ahead with
one more batch of radiation to stop the bleeding from the original tumor
site. Said it's better to fix it while it's a small leak rather than try to
fix it when the tap has broken right off. Due to the radiation having to
come really close to the spine, he will not be able to do any more in that
area after this. Does not want to damage the spinal cord. He did give me a
high dose and said the side effects will be worse than the last batch I had
done. Fatigue, skin burns, pain, coughing, but it should all subside in 5
days or so.

The other concern I had was the two lumps of cancer that have been growing
on my left rib in two places. Very sore to the touch and makes it hard to
even have clothes on by the one lump. He will be able to zap those away
which will happen on Tuesday. The machine he needed to use wasn't available
today otherwise it would of been done at the same time. Good news there.
I'll be so glad to have those gone as they have been a major part of the
pain for sure.

:) It's good to read they're able to help you again, Penny.
I hope the side effects aren't too troublesome for you.
Amd on to, hopefully, better days and nights.

Penny's sleeping a lot (fatigue), so someone's reading newsgroup messages for
her and emails for her, to her.  I don't know if they're reading all messages,
if her name crops up, in other threads - I assume but don't know for sure.

(I hope I get this right...)

First RT (Sept 1)  - spine wasn't affected, bleeding stopped.
They told her "no cream" for the skin burns - should take a few weeks before
that's better.

Second RT (Tues, 5th) was for lumps on ribs.  Helped, but she's got a few weeks
(I assume from the 5th) before the pain from RT (burns?) resolves.
Meantime, her husband thinks he noted jaundice, in her eyes, so their thinking
is that the cancer's worsening in her liver and the onc will probably be doing
bloodwork this coming week.

She's still alert and getting your messages.
And hoping that things will improve in the next few weeks.

That's the report, I hope I got it right.

I talked to Penny yesterday and she sounded better then earlier in the week.
I'm heading there today for a couple days so if she isn't able to post, I'll
let you know how she's doing when I get home.

Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and all the support you've given
her.

Great to hear from you, Trish & to hear that you will be visiting Penny.
I sent her an email that may cheer her some, so maybe you could read it
to her if she hasn't seen it already.

I'm glad to hear she's sounding better.  Maybe the radiation helped then?

Pen,

When I had a brain met deep inside my brain, I was sent to Stanford for
Cyberknife treatment.  CyberKnife is similar to Gamma Knife, but more
comfortable for the patient. And reportably has less of a chance of
damaging delicate tissue near the tumor.  They specifically mention spinal
lesions.

and

There's a video at
http://www.stanfordhospital.com/media/winMedia/wmmCyberKnife which has My
Dr. explaining some of the process.

Hope this helps
