PET/CT Scan

Well since Ihave read nothing on this subject, I will tell you my
experiences today. While I can still remember it.
I arrived at 12:45 per my instructions. Filled out the forms etc. Hippa et
al.
I had fasted for 5 hours prior to this test.
At one I was given an injection of glucose and some radioactive stuff. Not
much. I sat for 45 minutes to swish the stuff around my body, then off to
the PET part. You lie on a table like the CT scan dealy and the machine
moves you in in small increments. and you park there for 6 minutes. All the
time the machine whirls around your body. I am getting my lungs done so this
wasn't a forever trip. The machine moved me 5 times and that was that.
Then off for a short CT scan. They want you to hold your breath for a bit
then breathe.
The last two breath holds are killers. I swam for Coca Cola Swim team and
never smoked and I couldn't have held my breath that long then?
They must be smoking better stuff than I ever tried to believe the average
lung cancer pt. could manage this feat!
After we were done it was explained that the two scans would be fused
together and the results faxed to my Onc Doc and all other interested
parites, Rad. Onc and my primary care fella.
No pain just a worrysome experience.

My first PET/CT scan was in an older machine that has fewer
cameras therefore a longer period to hold your breath.  There is
a newer CT scanners (1mil$ or so) that more and more hospitals and
clinics are getting that have more cameras (64 IIRC) and I've been
in those 2 subsequent times at two different institutions.  Boy was
I relieved to not have to hold my breath so long!  Piece of cake!

Good luck, Betsy.
Hope it's clear and/or no sign of growing.
