My mother recently died from Cancer.  She passed on March 29th in
Cabrini Medical Center in New York.  My mother was the most assume
woman that I know.  She was the epitome of a "phenomenal woman." She
had a welcoming spirit that everyone she met acknowledged.  She had a
brief battle with Colon Cancer but, nevertheless, she put up one hell
of a fight. Now, my sister and I plan to fight the disease but not in
the literal sense.  You all know that Cancer isn't a physical entity
that we can attack with the same degree of damage and intensity with
which it strikes its victims.  If this were the case, we would have
attacked it with every blunt object within reach.  But all we could do
was watch as the disease crippled our mother.  Thus, my sister and I
plan to fight the disease with artistic expression in the form of a
print compilation authored by Cancer survivors-the immediate victim,
his/her family and friends etc.  A portion of the revenue from this
compilation will be denoted to an organization specializing in Cancer
research.

Please, if you are interested in making a submission or finding out
additional information, send a note to talkaboutcancer@gmail.com.

Thank you and God bless us all!

Ah so, they do the work of writing and you compile and make money off
it...

This is truly a labor of love.
I am honoring my mother in the written word and I am extended the
opportunity to others who would like to honor their loved ones as well.
Nothing more; nothing less!

God bless...

I'm curious, if you are not doing this to make money, then why not ALL
the proceeds go to cancer research, why only "a portion"?

Annie and I have an adventure that we have put together to raise funds
for cancer research, the difference is, all the funds except for about
1% goes directly to the research organizations. We only cover the costs
of banking charges.

So if you truly are doing this to honor someone, please have all the
proceeds go to help those who are facing cancer and have yet to face
it.

Having cancer, and not much time left, I would just like to say, my
family would NOT be honouring me in any way by participating in
something that is not completely a non profit venture and they wouldn't
even consider it.

Well, that's you and your family's choice.  We already have several
submissions from families who have considered it, but we could always
use more. Whether one cares to participate or not is entirely left to
the individual.  What can we do? We will keep your sentiments in mind,
however, and I pry that both of our projects are equally blessed.

And again, GOD BLESS!

good Luck to you and your venture too. :-)

I'm still curious as to why you aren't putting all the profits into
cancer support rather than just a portion of them? Is there a reason
for that?

Thanks

Perhaps you have misunderstood the word "portion." We are
self-publsihing via the print-on-demand method.  We have to pay
publishing expenses.  Once we have gotten those expenses back, the
remaining portion, which will be nearly every penny, will be given to
charity.   As I had previously metioned, this is a labor of love.  We
will not be making a profit from this venture, but we will be honoring
my mother as well as countless others.  We really want this book to be
a blessing, and with God's grace, it will be!

God bless!

Could it be that they are stuck with huge bills from the cancer care?
Maybe they established a not-for-profit organization where people can
donate or purchase their book and part goes to the hospital bills as
charity and part to research.

It's not uncommon for such entities to be created in the US to assist
families who can't pay the huge medical bills.

That could be hey? :-)
I was just curious as to why not and that certainly is a viable reason,
for sure.
I'm so lucky to live where I don't have to worry about medical
treatment and money. Not all are so fortunate.

on a different note, what does JMTCW mean? :-) I have no idea!

I'm lucky I live where I don't have to worry about waiting
weeks/months/years for some procedure/test/treatment, even if it's not an
emergency & "only" a matter of making life livable or having a reasonably
functional body -- and can change doctors & hospitals, etc. whenever I want
to for any or no reason. And I don't have to leave town (major metro area),
let alone the country, to do it.
Not all are so fortunate.

Just My Two Cents Worth. It's a colloquialism that means what I have to
say about it is pretty worthless <g>

Awww <blush>  How're you doing, love?  I wouldn't want to get by without
your humour and obvious joie de vivre.  You stick around for a bit
longer, y'hear?
