Dearest Cancees,
I hope this email finds you all well, cheery, and in good health.
Another wet week has passed here in Ohio but it looks like there is a
dry horizon. We are excited in that our daughter is getting her horse
packed for a week's stay at the County Fair.
I'm gonna try to be short this time. I am beginning to tire,
particularly at the end of the week. However, all in all, things are
going well and I have few complaints.
The interior of my mouth is suffering the most. I am using a variety
of mouthwashes designed to alleviate the symptoms. Largely, they work
but for a very short time. They have me using wax on my teeth during
the radiation treatment to difuse the rays some away from my cheeks and
tongue. This is all due to the large number of fillings in my mouth
which cause the rays to wander. I have to use the Magic Mouthwash to
numb myself enough to do the big brushing of morning and night.
I have started to lose hair due to the radiation. This was expected
and likely a permanent thing. Chemo continues to be the lessor of the
two "evils".
I continue to eat with dinner being my big meal. The wife has been
great in fixing things
that are visually stimulating as well as nutrious. Even so I have lost
about 2.5 lbs. per week average. Lastly, phlegm production is at an
all time high. I am producing copious
quantities that are uncomfortable to deal with.
So, that's the bad stuff. Otherwise, I get up at 6, am in the hotshop
between 7:30 and 8 for 1.5 to 2 hours of work, then relax a bit before
taking off for the James at 10:15. Home at
anywhere between 3:30 and 5. I'll do what needs to be done and then
take it easy. Bedtime is 10 - 10:30. Exciting, huh? Oh yeah, the
salivary glands are slowing down and I tend to dry up when I talk. My
voice has changed considerably and I am perfecting an imitation of
Marlon Brando as The Godfather!
Happily, this is week 4 of 8 so I can relate to it as downhill from
here. Thanks for all the love and support, you need to know how
helpful it is. Not much else to report, Take care,
keep well, and continue to send them positive vibes and love. I dote
on it!
Love,

Brando voice will come in quite handy! Especially during your "Chick
Checks"? You sound wonderfully "up"! Keep it up, my friend. Where in Ohio
are you? I used to live in Groesbeck just N of Cincinncati.

My golden tresses are beginning to come in white and curly? What the hell do
I do with curls and where was God when I was 16 and wanted them desperately.

I love my curls. The women in our family on my mom's side develope curly
hair after menopause. The other day a lady who is also staying at Camp
Cancer asked me if I had chemo because of my curls.
Betsy, when you have curls, there are no "bad hair days" I keep my hair
short and let it curl. No blow dryers, no styling. A bit of conditioner
after the shower and there ya go!
I got a hair cut today because the dry run is Tuesday and if the mask
doesn't fit exactly because I had a half inch cut off of my hair today,
they will think it's their fault and make the adjustments. <g>

My hair has always been worn short so this is not really a problem. I don't
own a curling iron or blow dryer. My shampoo comes with the conditioner. I
am ready for good hair days to begin, 1/2 inch and counting!!
I bought some junk to spike it till it gets to where I can shape whatever it
turns out to be.

That is the right attitude, Betsy. Rob's front half of hair came out and
only partially came back. He's growing it out so that he can donate what's
left for "locks for love" which I do every other year (my hair tends to grow
quickly and ten inches is no problem in two years). His hair grows slowly,
and after two years is about four inches long now. He wears it tied in a
pony tail and I call him my North Carolinian Klingon. He just needs the
lobster plate to look like one. He thinks this is funny and growls Worf
like noises at me.

If you don't have a sense of humor, going thru what we all are enduring, you
are basically lost, IMHO.
My hair is old and I doubt any one could make use of it. I thought there was
a maximum age limit on donors.
My friend's daughter is 10 and might need it. She is going thru the routing
at Robert Wood Johnson Hosp in NJ

I went and checked their webpage. I just have to wait to see what color God
chose this time. It dosen't match the blond/grey we had before. But then
they can sell it off and make up some of their losses.

Sez you. Naturally curly hair curls where IT wants to curl, not where YOU
want it to curl. My new chemo should take some kinks out. :)

hehehe, I love my chemo hair! So easy to look after now and I'm keeping
it on the shorter side, which I would of never gone this short before.
Love the curl!

It suits you, Penny and easy to care for.
Your grandkids are sweeties and I love the sweater you knit for "K".
Looks cozy for a cold, winter night. You're very talented.
Thanks for sharing.
It's also good to read that they think more time
