The ultrasound has shown that the cancer is spreading pretty quickly
now. It shows the cancer in a lot of the lymph nodes around the lower
chest, upper abdomin area and that is what is causing my pain. Some of
it is on my rib bones so he's pretty sure those are bone mets too.

I'm scheduled for a pain clinic tomorrow for 5 hours to work out a way
to manage the pain. 'The oncologist will transfer my file to them, who,
will in return, transfer it to a GP that works on palliative care.

He said that the small cell cancer is on the move, once it does that it
usually happens fairly quickly. Median time frame for survival at this
point is 6 - 8 weeks. He did say I've done amazingly well up to this
point.

Not sure how I'm feeling, will give it the evening to sink all in. I'm
not surprised though. I was sure this would be the news I would be
getting as I was just feeling it. Knew things were going downhill
pretty quickly.

I have a new grandchild on the way that I will probably not get to
meet. That makes me sad. My son has said they are going to name "her"
after me, if it is a girl. Should know a due date next week.

Tough, tough to know the things that I will never see, the things will
not be a part of. Excpet in spirit! :-) Yes, I will be there in spirit.
:-)

Penny, you have been so brave and a tremendous inspiration to so many.
You have created a legacy that will make that new granddaughter proud.
My wishes and prayers for you are for an easy transition with as little
pain and suffering as  possible. G-d bless you and your family.

I'm very sorry to hear your news Penny. I know you haven't be feeling
well for some time and ofcourse you were expecting not so good news, but
this is bad news. I don't want that. I don't want fast, I want slow and
I still hope you'll be able to have a good summer and see the leaves
turn in october.

Penny,

I've been following your blog and reading your posts. I am so sorry you are
going through this. But I have to tell you that you are an inspiration to
me. Now that I have bone mets I can only hope and pray that I will be able
to handle my life as well as you are handling yours.

I fully understand how you feel about the new grandchild. When I first got
breast cancer the only thing that kept me living reasonably sanely was the
anticipation of the birth of one of my grandsons. When i was ready to give
up the chemo and just let myself die, I realized how much I wanted to meet
and hold and love this precious baby. Now I'm so sad that I won't live to
see my three precious grandkids grow up.

I hope we will all be here in some other form of life to watch and guard our
loved ones.

Sorry to hear about your results.  You sound so brave and I hope that
strength will help you.  Good luck with the grandchild - hopefully s/he will
have your strength.

Sending a big hug your way, Penny.  I have thought of little else since
reading your email this afternoon.  Now I'm thinking of you moving into
your new home & making it yours & Michael's.  And then Petra's visit.  And
then Annie's.  And of course visiting with your sisters, kids & grandkids,
parents - all who love you.  You are an inspiration to all of us.  You have
an inner strength that will carry you through.  And we're all here for you,
dear Penny.

Hi Penny,

I am so sorry to hear your news, you are indeed one amazing lady.  The
palliative care team are wonderful people and will do all that they can to
make you the most comfortable and pain free.

It must be very tough leaving those that you love behind.  But after losing
my Tony, I feel that he has only left me bodily, he still lurks there in my
memories and in my heart and I am sure the same will be for your family.

Warm Warm Hugs

My friend you have made such a wonderful mark on my soul. I am so sorry to
hear your news. I go for mine on Monday and like you have all sorts of
real/imagined thinks in my mind.
I hope we come out of this in one piece. I hope your grandaughter is an
early delivery and at least you get a chance.
You have made such a wonderful impression to any scared soul visiting this
group. I hope your trip is easy.

I want to thank everyone for their support and messages!

After going through the pain assessment yesterday I'm feeling much
better already. At least a better outlook. I helps to have a caring
team on your side helping you get through this and the team I had
yesterday was sure that!

Even this morning, I'm thinking about my move, getting settled,
decorating, make the new place home. Can't wait! :-)

And, I'm going to start to crochet the new baby something. At least I
can do that, leave something of me behind for him/her.

I was telling the social worker that I met with about this group and
how it's made such a difference for me in coping with the cancer and
how amazing everyone here is. She said she would share that with others
that might need the support. I told her she would be sending them to a
wonderful group of people, that's for sure!

hugs to all

Penny, I pray that you will have much enjoyable time left.  Crocheting for
the baby is a wonderful thing to do, and something that will keep you in her
heart, as well as her children's and grand children's hearts down the road.
My best to you, and truly you are an inspiration to us all.

Pen:

I am mostly a lurker here with an occasional posting. But I have certainly
followed your long, tough saga.

Let's hope that the time you have left is longer than you think and that
there is still much joy left.

Take care, my friend. We will all be going down that difficult path in one
way or another. It is just another phase of life.

Please keep posting as long as possible.

You are an inspiration to many.

You'll be here too Pen, just as all those others we have got to know are
still here with us.  I can't think of anything else to say...

My prayers are with you Penny for a peaceful beautiful transition for you
and your sweet family both. I wish I could give you a real hug. You have
inspired, amazed and made me want to be a better person. I wish all the best
for you and yours. Your new grandchild to be has big shoes to fill and she
or he will know how much their grandma loved them, I know that without a
doubt.
Thank you for your lessons you've taught us.. may there be many more to come
in the following days. I pray you will outlive all of your doctor's
prognosis.
Rhonda
