You can't move the computer to another room or borrow an old one and set it up
in the room you'll be in?
All you would need is an oldie that can handle Outlook Express for emails and
newsgroups. (and hookup to the internet).

Well, earlier you mentioned scarring of your liver, that's cirrhosis and
sensitivity to medications is mentioned (amongst other possible problems)
