A question about colon cancer that is not answered on any website I have
yet to find.

If a person has symptoms and is diagnosed with colon cancer and chooses
to do absolutely nothing about it, no treatment of any kind, what is the
life expectancy?

Every site checked to date has information about life expectancy with
treatment at various stages, but nothing is said about life expectancy
with no treatment.

I'm glad you asked that too. I have searched all over every website to
do with colon/colorectal cancer with NO treatment except the relief of
a diverting colostomy, as the cancer was blocking the bowels. Every
site was with various stages of treatment. The ONLY site I went to and
explained of the colon cancer, which is cancer of the colon, broken
thru the wall and into 1-3 lympy nodes, was from www.allexperts.com,
which said less than 3 months.

Did you have your colonoscopy last year?
Have you been diagnosed?  If so, what stage?
How's your brother, by the way.

What colonoscopy? Which brother? Don't see how either answers my
question.

It depends where the tumor is, but when I was diagnosed I was in for
surgery a week later. If I had not gone for surgery I would have had a
complete blockage very shortly (they said I would not have lasted a
month because the tumor was so aggressive) and also the tissue near the
tumor is destroyed as the tumor grows so the intestines just burst and
separate. I was not prepared for the surgery and over a year of chemo
but the alternative was too painful.

This person I know has colon cancer, and a blockage of the bowels, and
cannot operate to take the cancer out, except for a diverting
colostomy to relieve the blockage, and no chemo or anything, said the
reaction to chemo or radiation was not worth it at this point.  You
say you would not last a month, so I would assume that 'this person'
does not have long..maybe why they said to let nature take its course.

Bright,
He may last a while with the colostomy, but the tumor continues to
destroy the tissue, and the cancer cells can go to nearby organs. Maybe
they will try radiation.  I wonder why they cannot remove the tumor
surgically? I will say a prayer.

They can't operate because of age [92] and the cancer has broken thru
the colon wall, and into lymph glands, and that she has advanced
alzheimers. And the treatment would be harder than the "letting nature
take its course", I assume.
