There are a number of supporters here.

If you or a loved one or friend has cancer, here's the place to be for
support.

There's a newsgroup to support breast cancer patients
alt.support.cancer.breast
and prostate cancer patients alt.support.cancer.prostate

If prostate or breast cancer patients (or loved ones) have
treatment-related questions, they could try here or
sci.med.diseases.cancer where there's sometimes 2 or 3 physicians.

I do refer some people elsewhere.
For instance, NHL all gather on an email list. They're welcome here as
well.
Same for thyroid cancer patients.

Sarcoma patients are welcome; hope that wasn't misunderstood; it was just
one poster who was mostly posting about one specific medicine. According
to the Charter, if it's more about medicines, post to
sci.med.diseases.cancer, but I expect they'd find multiple articles, about
the same product tiresome, so I referred the poster to 2 ACOR lists, where
likely they have her interest in that specific product (and more).

The rest of you are welcome here.
Just diagnosed; awaiting surgery or referral to radiologist or oncologist.

On treatment, off treatment, in remission, nothing further can be done,
here's the place for you.

Don't forget:
to munge your email address
don't post your full name, address or phone number. (We may ask the city
or State - Province/Country, if it's required in order to properly answer
a question).
Don't crosspost, until you've been here a while and get the feel of the
newsgroup and when it's appropriate.

How to reply, when using Google to access this newsgroup

alt.support.cancer's Charter is here
http://www.cancersupporters.com/asc/charter.html
It's really not that tough. Alayne was a newbie, a few years ago, and she
caught on almost right away.
Same for Figgertoes.

News items: post the link - make sure it's in the acceptable topics in the
Charter. Again, if it's breast or prostate related, that's the newsgroup
for those. Can you ask about or mention medicines? Yes.
If your post's more about medicines, sci.med.diseases.cancer
Lifestyle issues: like diet and prevention. sci.med.diseases.cancer or
alt.health or sci.med

If you want privacy and/or you've been involved in "trouble" on other
newsgroups, create a different profile (in your Outlook
Express/newsreader) and change names, for this newsgroup.  Several or more
people are successfully doing this on various newsgroups.

If you've mentioned the type of cancer however, on other newsgroups and
it's rather rare, it's possible the trouble could follow you here. There's
some trouble-makes that I can ward off here and others I cannot - because
of how they're posting.  If that's the case, it's best to find a different
support resource.  ACOR is one, I just posted one for brain tumors. Ask
and I'll find you a safe place elsewhere.

Post, it's your newsgroup and we're here for you.

Hello there,
Hope you'll stay on newsgroup; we can support you both.
And that's what newsgroups are for.
If one's not available, there's others.

By the way, welcome.
If you get a chance, there's a lady formerly on the breast cancer
newsgroup, who, since AOL made changes cannot get back to
alt.support.cancer.breast
If you know instructions, you could look there and email Tim?
Maybe he would connect you with her and you could holdhand her back to her
group?
If not able, I'll understand.
Please stay around.
and I'm sorry to hear about your mother.
J
