Hello,
I was diagnosed in October. I have a large tumor on my left lung, and
cancer has spread to my bones and lymphatic system. I have been
relatively symptom-free, except for pain in the bones. A monthly IV of
premitidine (I think that's the name) takes care of the pain in my
bones and the only other noticeable thing has been my shortness of
breath.
Oh yeah, I lost 35 pounds between October and January. I couldn't eat
because I would gag on food when I tried eating. My doctor then put me
on Dexamethasone and that shrank the tumor. Now I'm able to eat again.
In fact my appetite is better than it's been for months but I haven't
gained back any weight. Except, that is, my cheeks. I normally have a
drawn face with lines around my cheeks and mouth. I look like a horn
player blowing a trumpet all the time. Before I head off and waste my
doctor's time, has anyone out there run into similar symptoms?
Thx - Kevin

It's a common side-effect of dexamethasone. Unsightly, but not otherwise a
problem.
High doses of dex can cause problems if continued a long time

Hello Kevin,
I saw your "before" picture on your website and read your description and
as Steph wrote, it's probably the dexamethasone puffiness. People with
other life-threatening illnesses are troubled by that, as well, but in
their cases, they can sometimes reduce the steroid. I don't know the
solution since it seems to be helping your breathing.
Google (search engine) couldn't guess at your other medicine, unless you
mean something like pamidronate?
Penny could be back within a few weeks and posting more regularly.
Meantime, if we can be of support, please post.
And let us know how you're doing, please.
