a few months ago, Curt ordered "SeaVeg" off the late night telly. 99$ for 3
months of product. He didn't check with me. 2 days before payday and I
didn't have that much left so needless to say, it cost a bit more than $99.
some may remember the Shaman, organic fruits only and other tries by Curt
except stopping smoking and extensive chemo. but then we got some
confidential dictations in the hospice chart that the silly girls left here.
highly undifferenciated cells, very aggressive cancer etc never relayed to
Curt in my presence anyway. I knew from my readings on the net but he
carries around a half full glass <g>

so anyone heard of this
"Second Opinion" magazine that supposedly has articles to cure everything. I
need just a place to start to show Curt that they are charlatans, and worse,
givers of false hopes.

TIA,
Lori

Well, it's seaweed, Lori. kelp, and /or algae which is claimed to contain iodine,
which (too much of) can probably affect the thyroid
http://www.holisticbird.org/diet/seaveg.htm I wouldn't feed that to my cat, she
seems in balance, sometimes hyper/happy playful and sometimes "nappish" which
seems appropropriate for a cat and there's nothing to indicate, according to vet
that she's got a thyroid problem.  I looked at seaveg.com and see no reference
to cancer on their web page nor in the testimonials. Looks like they're pushing
it for "healing" or healthy snacks. If you find that Curt's developed a "like"
for it, maybe the Strontium affected his thyroid - bloodwork could check for
that, I think.

Apparently it's high in potassium and calcium rich . (Annie Appleseed webpage)
Apparently when cancer's in the bones, the calcium levels can become elevated,
so I wouldn't want him taking that. First paragragh here shows what could happen
in hypercalcemia http://www.cancersupportivecare.com/hypercalcemia.html
It would have to be treated see paragraph "Moderate to Severe Hypercalcemia"

I thought he just had an injection of Lupron and another's not due for 3 months?

http://www.prostate-cancer.org/education/boneintg/Strum_BoneIntegrityNatlHist.html

(which mentions apoptosis) (cell death)

http://www.innvista.com/health/foods/vegetables/seaveg.htm
Sea vegetables is the new, trendy term for seaweed or marine algae.
(elaborates on types and ingredients)

There's recipes here http://www.annieappleseedproject.org/seaveg.html (claimed
to be a detoxifier).
I'd try some in a soup or salad, once in a while or when dining out.
That web page also references a PubMed for breast cancer, from Japan.
(which also mentions apoptosis, but remember that anything, in large enough
quantity, can probably kill a single cancer cell, in vitro ).

Algae is under False Claims and Hype at
http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/algae.html

So my conclusion is, if he thinks he's low in some of the vitamins or minerals,
he could probably do just as well, eating a healthy diet and supplementing with
some of the drug store vitamins and/or minerals and save  a whole lot of money.
If he thinks his thyroid's malfunctioning, he probably get that checked by his
doctor.

I've tried to "logic" this through as to the pros and cons so you'll know I gave
it a fair chance.
Now watch, after all this, Steph'll probably post that it's newagey bunkum (for
cancer), which it is. <g>

I miswrote that. I don't care about the SeaVegg. that is done and paid for

My question was more about

and this Dr Rowen. Robert J Rowen. I see he was disciplined by the
Washington State Dept of Health for unreported income. Practices out of
Alaska now. One of Curt's friends gave him a copy of this magazine that has
endless "cures" and you have to "subscribe" to the secret handshake of
health or something that costs $40-90.

he did get lupron so he isn't due again. he is on his way back to the
hospital to get the 5th unit of blood. can't wait to see that bill. TG for
good insurance.

Not logical. You know there's no cure for Curt.
I see his name on a number of quack (treatment) web pages.
One of the doctors he was involved with has been charged with homocide
