Figgertoes - 06 Feb 2006 17:34 GMT This seriously sucks! I'm home for an hour or so waiting my turn for emergency oral surgery. A tooth is starting to abscess, already has crown, post, root canal. So they have to come in from above, from the gum. I've had one of these before. I won't get to work before 3, maybe even later. whine...Not only that, the damn thing hurts. whine...At least it can be fixed...smile. & surgical dentist is just around corner....smile. And I won't lose the crown...smile.
Thanks, that helped!

A temporary remedy I have found helpful in the past is garlic.Cut up a raw clove and put a sliver next to the problem area.If it is a cavity, push it inside. ...
... and before you-know-who starts beefing that we are on the wrong NG, Hippocrates prescribed garlic for his cancer patients. They don't come more orthodox than that.
Sam.

Ouchy tooth is very, *very* ouchy, and should not be endured longer than is strictly necessary. Have some {{{{{{hugs}}}}}} and some single malt as anaesthetic - and take care of yourself.

I have to say after surviving cancer, dental issues are a minor detour, and now with dental implants I probably will never need dentures. although the worst pain I have experienced is dental pain. Alex

I was afraid with my cancer history that implant would not take, but I take tons of calcium supplements and the new bone grew. Alex
Figgertoes - 06 Feb 2006 23:58 GMT Alex,
I couldn't get your post to copy into my followup...
If this doesn't work, implant is next. Glad to hear yours worked. I've had this procedure once before & it wasn't bad at all. This time, it was excruciating. They cut gum & go into tooth root from top, cut off base of root, some bone, fill 'er up, clean out abscess, stitch back together. My car is still at dental office as I couldn't have driven myself home. No way. Last time I went straight to work.
Pain too bad for work, but OK now. Just wrote 'keep smoking bill strong' email to legislator. Looked good when sent; hope it still looks good when head clears.
Yeah, I know it's nothing compared to cancer.

Go to bed with some painkillers and try to get some sleep if you can.

> Yeah, I know it's nothing compared to cancer. I guess maybe it should have been OT'd. Think "cancer patient coming up for air from feeling bad from side effects, only wants to see posts that might be for their cancer or talking to them or help for side effects" eh? In theory, if we put OT at the beginning of the subject line, and they filter OT's, they clear the decks for posts relevant to them.
Hope your situation continues to improve, Fig. Sounds like it might be sore today. Hugs J

Alayne - recalling nightmarish memories of being admitted to hosp. at a days notice several years ago due to cyst growing on palate, my every sympathies hon.

Clove oil? I'll have to find out about that. Maybe health food store. I cook with cloves but have never had the oil. I have dental problems regularly no matter what I do, so might be useful to have around. Tooth itself never hurt that much if I didn't bite. I've been getting by on semi-liquids until today. Surgery did hurt this time.
Stitches are starting to fall out now. Am not back to shooting baskets at lunch yet.
Your cyst sounds like more of an ordeal.
Hugs, Fig

Have some {{{{{hugs}}}}} and the promise of your favourite meal out in your favourite restaurant soonish. Cuddle a teddy bear. Always a comfort :-)

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Actually I lost 6 lbs. The yogurt smoothie & popsicle diet!

Thanks for all the hugs & care. I'm gonna be alright. Tooth probably will be too.

The last time I tried Anbesol, it tasted just like a mild bourbon. :)
Signature If John McCain gets the 2008 Republican Presidential nomination, my vote for President will be a write-in for Jiang Zemin.

It's a thought though, I wonder if it works the other way around? Will rubbing a bit of bourbon on a hurty dent have the same effect as Anbesol? Would sipping slowly (well OK, not /that/ slowly) help? For medicinal purposes only, *obviously*.
 Signature Em, wondering

It is also called eugenol. When my daughter fell and broke a tooth a couple of months ago I bought it in a kit with a dabber and some packing for a dollar or two.
