Hi. My oncologist just switched me from Tamoxephen to Exemestane for what
was Stage 3 estrogen positive multi-focal breast cancer.

Can you tell me more about this drug? Is it a cheaper drug than the new
arimitose inhibitors?

Can it cause a bad rash? If so, can it be just on the neck, chest and face,
rather than all over?

I appreciate anything you can tell me.

Hello Victoria,
I noticed that no one replied, on group, here nor on the breast cancer
newsgroup.

You seem to be posting from out west.
Since Alberta and BC seem to get the best of cancer care, I would think that
the oncologist who is suggesting the medication change, would a) have to
prescribe it for you and b) point you to a source to obtain it, who could then
tell you the comparison prices.

I did see a list of side effects for Exemestane (during my searching) and I'm
pretty sure that rash was not on the list.  Again, that's something to ask your
oncologist.
Good luck in your search and treatment plan.

I put  Exemestane in google and got good info.  I would say your ONC is
right up to date on protocols and doing the absolute best for you.  It
has NOTHING to do with cost!

There's always a cost, turtletrot, so I can't figure out our reply.
Got some clinical trials (Phase III preferably) results?

Hi,

This drug is good but it depends on how your body will react to the
components. Some of the common side effects are nausea, fatigue, flashes.
You may have an increase in the amount of sweat your body produces.

Just let your doctor know any other side effects so he can monitor your
progress on this drug carefully.

AROMASIN is indicated for adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with
estrogen-receptor positive early breast cancer who have received two to three
years of tamoxifen and are switched to AROMASIN for completion of a total of
five consecutive years of adjuvant hormonal therapy.

AROMASIN is indicated for the treatment of advanced breast cancer in
postmenopausal women whose disease has progressed following tamoxifen therapy.

The recommended dose of AROMASIN in early and advanced breast cancer is one 25
mg tablet once daily after a meal.

In postmenopausal women with early breast cancer who have been treated with 2-3
years of tamoxifen, treatment with AROMASIN should continue in the absence of
recurrence or contralateral breast cancer until completion of five years of
adjuvant endocrine therapy.

For patients with advanced breast cancer, treatment with AROMASIN should
continue until tumor progression is evident.

For patients receiving AROMASIN with a potent CYP 3A4 inducer such as
rifampicin or phenytoin, the recommended dose of AROMASIN is 50 mg once daily
after a meal.

The safety of chronic dosing in patients with moderate or severe hepatic or
renal impairment has not been studied. Based on experience with exemestane at
repeated doses up to 200 mg daily that demonstrated a moderate increase in
non-life threatening adverse events, dosage adjustment does not appear to be
necessary (see CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY, Special Populations and PRECAUTIONS).

HOW SUPPLIED

AROMASIN Tablets are round, biconvex, and off-white to slightly gray. Each
tablet contains 25 mg of exemestane. The tablets are printed on one side with
the number “7663” in black. AROMASIN is packaged in HDPE bottles with a
child-resistant screw cap, supplied in packs of 30 tablets.
