Bill passed House Committee 9-4 with an unwanted casino exemption & one other minor one. Far from over;its a lengthly process. Public testimony is only allowed at House & Senate committee hearings, so I have the Senate to go - if all goes well & it's expected to.
One surprise: hearing was moved to much larger room in different building. Found the place & scooched over to one remaining seat. When I got settled & looked in front of me, I thought I saw a familiar head. So I whispered. "Jen?" It was Jen so I mouthed, "Is that Jo?" (her mom sitting next to her). It was. Jo testified for Socks too. She tried to register as Sock's lobbyist, but you have to have a client capable of signing the paper.
Hours later when Jo & I could talk, she said Socks had taken her to lunch last summer & extracted the promise that she would testify when the bill came up. He had her renew her promise the night he was sedated in hospice. That's how important this is to Socks. Jo is a retired lobbyist for enviro organizations & knows many legislators & ins/outs. So I told Jo that Socks had not extracted any such promise from me, to which she replied, "He didn't have to," That was sweet.
Now I'm so exhausted I'm staggering & tomorrow's a biggie work day.
So thank you all for the good wishes. Socks would be having a celebratory brew about now. Maybe he is.

There's a celestial bar being propped up somewhere. And the only smoke allowed therein is from the apple and oak wood burning on the fire in the inglenook :-)

Maybe they stock some of those obscure single malt Soctches he was always looking for!

Signature Em, who rather likes a single malt.

We do have an amazing pub here with extensive Scotch list. I'll see if they have. I may be on a semi-liquid diet for a few days. Got hit in teeth with basketball. Right side of mouth is some kind of sore. Let's see... there's Numzit & then there is Socks' Scotch collection...which will it be?

Cor look, they've got their own website: http://www.laphroaig.com/home.asp And it turns out I was very nearly right with the spelling. In my opinion it's a crime to dilute Laphroaig with anything other than more of the same - but that's just me. There are plenty of folk out there who will add a drop of water to it. Other than that though, it is /not/ for mixing. It's for celebrating or for special occasions and toasts. You can welcome a baby with it; you can say goodbye to a loved one with it; you can celebrate a marriage or whatever with it. What you should never do with it is to gulp it down. Sip it slowly, savour the aroma, let it play with the back of your throat... flamin' 'eck, did I really just write all that? I need a lie down :-)
Signature Em, wondering if the local shop have any L in.

Sometimes dilute with a drop of water but never, never anything else. Price hardly matters with me as one bottle can last me for years. I have low alcohol tolerance. Not so with Socks! I like port conditioned ones. Scotch leaves me functional the next day while wine/beer can take a toll.

I don't think I've ever had corn whiskey - will check liquor store when it opens. Will be making a stop there today. Sometimes I add a little cinnamon schnapps to my hot cocoa for bedtime. The only disruptive part is getting back up to brush teeth!

turtletrot1 - 12 Feb 2006 16:25 GMT There is "Goldschlager." you can see the specks of "gold" floating in the liquer. There is also one that looks just like it, not sure of the name, it is about $3 cheaper. Both have that yummy cinnamon taste. Like the old fashioned "fire balls" we liked so much as kids.
Pen - 14 Feb 2006 02:06 GMT I haven't been able to find the "Dr. McKilley's Fireball" in the US during our travels. Sure do miss it. It does have the cinnamon in it already. Will look for the goldschlager and try that one.
If you ever get to Canada, look for it though! It's also great with Cranberry juice.

Bear actually went to liquor store so I haven't shopped for it yet. But will.
Last time you mentioned Michael's desire for fly fishing lessons. In jest I hope! I could demonstrate how to snag birds out of their nests! He is welcome to try the equipment - I have everything but skill. Bear agreed that I didn't need a fishing license that day as I was only entertaining the fish.
I am downing a large glass of Scotch at the moment. Not like me, but Bear left today & then I had to deliver bad news at work & then read Alex's post under 'Damn' & my hot-headed response.
It'll be better by morning. Except then I'm supposed to teach my client's employees (including managers) how to reconcile accounts. I think I know how that will be received. It's insulting to them, but they have demonstrated they don't know how. Another damn.
Bottoms up!
Gloria

I know what it's like to have to explain things to non accounting types. Especially if they think they know. Have fun! :(
We all have our moments so don't fret about it. I've been known to get a little hot headed myself. Just ask Michael. hehehehe
Off to the caverns now. Hope today goes okay for you! Hugs Penny

An Ibuprofen (extreme med for me) calmed things last night. We went to 1 play last night & another tonight + I have all day event tdy & tmo. Don't have time for pain!
Dentist Monday morn 1st thing. Just to be sure things will resolve without intervention. Cross fingers pls.
Yogurt smoothies are my friends!
So much for getting a little fresh air at lunch, huh?
Hugs back, Fig - straggling this am

Fingers crossed here for you, Fig J

Fingers crossed here for you, Fig

At least that is what I was offered (and accepted !) at the GlenFiddich distillery. (It came in a tumbler..almost full! And seconds, or even thirds if you could and wished.)
