My mother has the decease of notochord tumor for more than 6 years now,
and the situation is only getting worse, and I'd like to get help
from all the experts and good-hearted people here.
She started by having a tumor the size of 4x7x9cm in her buttock, near
the tail bone. She did the surgery to get rid of it, but unfortunately
the surgery was not very clean the first time. As a result the tumor
re-grows a year later, and she had to do a gamma ray operation to take
it out. The gamma ray hurt her nerves in the upper leg and she was
handicapped. Since then, the tumor keeps re-growing every year, on the
average of size 5cm. To cure this problem, she has gone through many
different treatments, include 6 surgeries, 4 gamma ray operations, 2
radiation therapies and 1 thermo therapy.
Both her legs are handicapped now, and her life is a lot of suffering
on a daily basis. She has recently lost control of urination, and have
to take 50mg of tramadol(pain-killer) to go to sleep. The most urgent
problem is to control the re-growth of the tumor. Since she has so many
surgeries already, I'm afraid her body can not afford to take another
one. My mother lives in China, but I'm working in U.S. so I can not
help her out directly. Any suggestions or advice of how to cure her
illness or at least lessen the symptom will be greatly appreciated!

Hello,
I understand the concern about the continuing need for surgeries.
This type of tumor is locally aggressive, usually cannot be totally
resected.
There is no cure, unfortunately.
They're doing the best there is.
Before (weeks or more) her next surgery, please come here and describe the
tumor size and location (structures) for an opinion.
