I am new to this forum and got here when I researched "periaortic nodes".
(I replied to a post here and asked a question about these nodes.) I
decided it might be better to post a new post. I recently had an abd. scan
done for a renal stone.  The scan showed the stone as well as "several
periaortic nodes, 1mm in size." Everytime I researched I ended up on web
pages about cancer, lymphoma, and Hodgkins. Is this something I should be
concerned about or are these nodes present in everyone?  My first thought
is that until there is reason to biopsy one of these nodes, they are of no
concern.  Anybody know if these are significant and do I need to be
concerned?
Thank you.

Hello Melissa,
We all (well, most of us) have those nodes. I wouldn't be surprised if the
nodes were a bit enlarged, if a person has a kidney stone.
Ask your question on sci.med.radiology (wait for 2 or 3 replies) and if
they're not concerned about it, post on sci.med. There's a veteran of kidney
issues who reads and posts there.
Best wishes,
J

Thank you. Please excuse my ignorance...how do I get to sci.med.radiology?

I guess through Google, unless your ISP carries newsgroups and you use your
Outlook Express (newsreader feature).
Copy and paste these into a browser.

Since Steph's already replied to you, you might as well go over to sci.med
(below)

Hey, most of us didn't make it through medical school. Probably most of us
didn't even apply. :)

It's probably a typo. Nobody can see 1mm nodes on a scan.
Nodes up to 1cm are a common normal finding

Thank you, Steph.  I'm relieved.
