Hello Again, and Happy New year.
Back in Nov. 2005 I had a colonoscopy performed and had a polyp
removed. Testing of the polyp showed that I had B-Cell Lymphoma or
MALT Lymphoma. No longer just a polyp. This was found because my dad
died of colon cancer several years ago. When I turned 35 I decided
that every 5yrs I was going to have a colonoscopy, because of what my
dad went through. Well, thats how it was found. Even though my dad is
dead, I still continue to learn from him......I wish I could tell him.
Anyways......
I just finished another round of testing, blood work and CAT scan and
at this point nothing else was found. All tests were reported back as
normal. I'm extremly happy about this but it still remains in the back
of my mind, and probably will always be there. At this point I will go
into a monitoring type phase, I guess thats what you call it. I have a
colonoscopy planed for April and more blood work around the same time.
I'll see my oncologist in may. I guess I will continue with the blood
work and colonoscopy on a regular basis, but not sure how regular and
for how long. Keeping in mind that a regular colonoscopy will always
be part of my life.
My questions are, and I hope someone can answer them,
Are there any other tests that I should go through to make sure that
the MALT is gone?
Are there any other tests that I need to do to monitor and make sure
that the MALT does not come back?
How long do I need to monitior this before I can say it's gone?
TIA,
Paul

Often, a bome marrow is done to complete staging.

No

You can never be certain with MALT, but worrying about it won't make it more
or less likely

If a bone marrow is done to complete staging, then why wouldn't my
oncologist suggest this testing? Should I ask to have this done?

If a bone marrow should be done to complete staging, then why didn't my
oncologist order this test?
Is this something I should ask for when I see him?
