Your Doctol get income only if you are sick. Guess what they will not tell
you:

http://www.mercola.com/2005/mar/9/prostate_cancer.htm

More than any other cancer and representing about one-third of all cancers
diagnosed among men, prostate cancer is estimated to occur in more than
220,000 men in 2005.
From the minute a patient is diagnosed with this cancer, they are faced with
a number of difficult treatment decisions; for some men, the disease will
continue to progress, resistant to all treatment forms. Governments do not
research prostate cancer but only breast cancer as that brings more votes.

The question of whether PSA screening does in fact reduce mortality from
prostate cancer must be answered by large-scale clinical trials, which are
currently underway. PSA-related findings thus far include:

a.. Relative five-year survival rates for prostate cancer patients were 99
percent

 b.. 10-year survival rates were 95 percent

c.. Excess mortality compared with the general population was as low as 1
percent and 5 percent within five and 10 years following diagnosis

Cut the Risk of Prostate Cancer with Sunshine?

One specific treatment for prostate cancer brought to the "research
forefront" is sunshine. According to a study, men with higher levels of
vitamin D (typically obtained through sunshine exposure) in their blood were
half as likely to develop aggressive forms of prostate cancer than those
with lower amounts. Experiments also suggested vitamin D inhibits cell
growth.

Yet despite sunshine's apparent health benefits, doctors are not entirely
comfortable with prescribing the "sunshine vitamin," though many see little
harm in getting the 15 minutes of exposure time a day the body needs to make
enough of this vital nutrient. (It is recommended people get a daily vitamin
D amount of 400 international units.) Doctors warn, however, that there must
be a "happy medium" to receiving vitamin D: Too little won't do any good,
while an overload can cause critical health problems such as skin cancer.

Cancer Prevention and Red Wine
Red wine is a rich source of biologically active phytochemicals, chemicals
found in plants. Particular compounds called polyphenols found in red wine,
such as catechins and resveratrol, are thought to have anti oxidant or anti
cancer properties.

What are polyphenols and how do they prevent cancer?

Polyphenols are antioxidant compounds found in the skin and seeds of grapes.
When wine is made from these grapes, the alcohol produced by the
fermentation process dissolves the polyphenols contained in the skin and
seeds. Red wine contains more polyphenols than white wine because the making
of white wine requires the removal of the skins after the grapes are
crushed. The phenols in red wine include catechin, gallic acid, and
epicatechin.

Polyphenols have been found to have antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are
substances that protect cells from oxidative damage caused by molecules
called free radicals. These chemicals can damage important parts of cells,
including proteins, membranes, and DNA. Cellular damage caused by free
radicals has been implicated in the development of cancer. Research on the
antioxidants found in red wine has shown that they may help inhibit the
development of certain cancers.

What is resveratrol and how does it prevent cancer?

Resveratrol is a type of polyphenol called a phytoalexin, a class of
compounds produced as part of a plant's defense system against disease. It
is produced in the plant in response to an invading fungus, stress, injury,
infection, or ultraviolet irradiation. Red wine contains high levels of
resveratrol, as do grapes, raspberries, peanuts, and other plants.

Resveratrol has been shown to reduce tumor incidence in animals by affecting
one or more stages of cancer development. It has been shown to inhibit
growth of many types of cancer cells in culture. Evidence also exists that
it can reduce inflammation. It also reduces activation of NF kappa B, a
protein produced by the body's immune system when it is under attack. This
protein affects cancer cell growth and metastasis. Resveratrol is also an
antioxidant.

What have red wine studies found?

The cell and animal studies of red wine have examined effects in several
cancers including leukemia, skin , breast, and prostate cancers . Scientists
are studying resveratrol to learn more about its cancer preventive
activities. Recent evidence from animal studies suggests this
anti-inflammatory compound may be an effective chemopreventive agent in
three stages of the cancer process: initiation, promotion, and progression.

However, studies of the association between red wine consumption and cancer
in humans are in their initial stages. Although consumption of large amounts
of alcoholic beverages may increase the risk of some cancers, there is
growing evidence that the health benefits of red wine are related to its
nonalcoholic components.

Sunshine and wine???  Why not mention sex?  Is this too expensive an
item in the politically correct Oz?

My doctor told me one of the best ways to reduce the risk of prostate
cancer is for older people to have sex with younger women or girls, at
least 3-4 times a month.  Given that the world is full of poor women
a/o young girls in both the developed and underdeveloped countries,
legalizing sex industry is a win/win for both the sex workers and the
customers.

Open up the gate of Oz and allow mass sex workers to come in from
Eastern Europe, Mexican and Asia.  In this way the older men can have
sex at affordable prices and the younger women from poor countries can
make enough to buy a house at home.  With such an arrangement, not only
we could reduce the amount of potential prostate cancer patients in
men, but also we will unlikely bring about an evener distribution of
income amongst all people.  Such an charitable act is both morally and
politically correct.

Only hypocrites don't think that way.

You are assuming that worn out old farts who are desirous of relations with
much younger women and who die from prostatic cancer is somehow a bad thing.

I think the world has enough degenerates already., we don't need to
encourage them further and we certainly don't need to increase their ranks.

How about we find a cure for the disease instead.

How about the health professionals put as much into informing young
males about prostate cancer as they do with informing females about
breast and cervical cancers.
And I'll bet there is no nationwide prostate detection scheme in any
country in the world..

Probably has something to do with the fact detection is such a tricky
business. Even the PSA test throws up a LOT of false positives. I would like
to see more effort put into detection as well.

For those concerned about prostate cancer I would suggest you have a
read of this article.  I have been buying the Dr Red liqueur for a
couple of years and the Ginger Punch for twelve months.

THE DR RED STORY

Brisbane's Vineyard, under the leadership of biochemist Greg Jardine,
has introduced a range of wine products and a ginger concentrate aptly
branded Dr Red that are packed full of antioxidants. Dr Red was
introduced to the world on 31 st March 2003 . Red wine has a third of
the grape antioxidants, Dr Red has 100%.

The Brisbane team took this new beverage concept further by adding
other antioxidant extracts from the Mediterranean diet, extracts of
olive, citrus and raspberry. Working with scientists from Queensland's
Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries they were able to
optimise the levels of anti-oxidants in the wine.

In-vitro testing with the Queensland Institute of Medical Research
began in 2003 and tested wines that were exploring what combination of
antioxidants brought about programmed cell death (apoptosis). Only when
the Asian based anti-inflammatory antioxidants of ginger and lime were
added to the Mediterranean cocktails did results in testing take place.

By Christmas 2004 the Mediterr-Asian Diet functional beverage concept
was launched with the initial testing of a non-alcoholic ginger based
fruit juice concentrate with Sydney University . Headed by Dr Qihan
Dong MD, Phd., extensive in-vitro testing against 3 prostate cancer
cell lines took place. The tests on Dr Red's Ginger Punch successfully
killed all three types of prostate cancer cells 100% in the laboratory.
Dr Dong's work had traditionally focussed on individual antioxidant
molecules such as those found in grape skin, turmeric and green tea.
The Dr Red team have now released an enhansed version of Ginger Punch
called Ginger Punch Prostate Formula. This triple strength formulation
punch is to be the candidate for enlarged prostate study and animal
prostate cancer study.

By end of May 2005 Ginger Punch had successfully completed in-vitro
prostate cancer cell study. Expected in-vivo (animal) performance of
Ginger Punch to be completed by end of 2005. In-vitro testing of
breast, and other cancer cell lines is currently underway.

In-vivo testing of Ginger Punch for prevention of heart tissue damage
at The University of Queensland (Associate Professor Lindsay Brown)
expected to be completed by Dercember 2005.

The Dr Red team's goal is to demonstrate the power of antioxidants in
whole foods when combined in a synergistic fashion, thus stimulating
broader evidence-based research in Australia .

OK, so they mixed lime and ginger in their Aussie wine and are peddling it
as a prostate cancer cure at $35 per bottle. A day or two ago a guy here was
offering long-distance spiritual prostate cancer cures, available on eBay at
around $25.

My conclusion? The best deal was from the gal who wanted us to drink our
urine. Sure, it's yucky as well as wacky. But it is free. And hey, we could
add lime and ginger!

Best wishes to all for a 2006 filled with rational, scientifically-tested
approaches to treating "our" disease.

Greg Jardine is a qualified biochemist.
Dr Qihan Dong MD, Phd. of the Sydney University is a qualified
researcher.

And Alex your scientific/medical qualifications are ????????

Dr. Qihan Dong does not list this research on his web page. Why not? He
lists tons of other research projects.

> And Alex your scientific/medical qualifications are ????????

His biggest qualification is that he is not trying to part me from my
wallet. Your message sounded to me somewhat like the ones touting penny
stocks that fill my in-box.

I stand corrected, Hunter, and offer my sincerest apologies to the
aptly-named Dr. Dong.
I now understand that I have no right to an opinion, much less a mildly
satirical one, and that I should simply accede to the superior knowledge of
trained medical and scientific professionals.
I hereby pledge to follow the advice of ALL of these experts, to the letter.
I will have my prostate cancer treated with radioactive seeds, both
implanted and inserted/removed, followed by IMRT and EBRT, all the while
gulping down this Aussie wine and capsules of Prostasol. I will then have my
prostate cooked with HIFU, and afterward will have it removed via a DaVinci
machine (being careful not to call it a robot) and reinserted for a
subsequent open prostatectomy.
In this manner I will have followed the advice of (almost) ALL of the
qualified scientific and medical specialists who know better than I what I
should do about my cancer.
Whew, I'm gonna have a busy 2006!

Sorry if I came on too heavy Alex.  Maybe I'm losing my sense of humour
but your brand of satire went straight through to the keeper.

As I said I have been drinking the Ginger Punch now for nearly twelve
months, if nothing else it is a lovely refreshing drink on a hot day
especially after coming from the gym.  My decision to share it with
others is not motivated by profit (as inferred in another post).

Anything but the knife.  No limp dick or incontinence pads for this
kid.  LOL

Hunter, no offense taken. I just used your comment as a launchpad to riff
about the wide (and often conflicting) range of advice we get from
conventional and alternative practitioners.
Very selfishly, I sincerely hope that the Ginger Punch continues to work for
you, and also proves its value in wider tests, because that will give all of
us another option in our battle.
If it eventually comes down to a choice for me between oddly-flavored wine
versus the scalpel, with equal chances of a good outcome, I'll be standing
next to you with glass in hand!
